Just watched a piece on NBC about Peyton and it mentioned frequently that Archie was the victim of some really bad Saint's teams. I have heard this all my life (born in '71). Doesn't he hold some responsibilty for how bad the TEAM was?? And yes, I remember the defense being bad back then but I think the extent to which the Saints supposedly held him back is often overblown.

Yes he does but everyone gives him a free pass. Screw him and his sons. I am so glad that Drew Brees will go done as the best QB in Saints history so everyone wil STFU about Archie.

I think Archie went to 2 pro bowls and we had crappy records. We use to also score a ton of points but we would give up more. Archie was good but he played for the Saints when Meachum owned the team. That guy was a scum bag!

Roger Stauback would have been teaching in Annapolis after 3 seasons behind a Saints offensive line...

Terry Bradshaw would be unknown and living in a trailer park in Many if he had to play behind a Saints offensive line...

Manning was a physically superior QB who played on the worst NFL franchise of the 1970's. No QB had been sacked more in NFL history when he retired. His WRs were garbage, the only decent RB the team had in his tenure was a sociopath who had a bad coke addiction.

Manning was voted NFC player of the year for a team that had a losing record, something that had never happened before and will not happen again in our lifetimes.

Wes Chandler was good. So was Chuck Muncie and Tony Galbreath.

Neither Archie or Eli really resemble Archie. Archie was a tremendous runner - he set a few NFL QB rushing records in his career.

Manning was essentially Steve Young, if Steve Young had never been traded to the 9ers and had spent his entire career with the Tampa Bay Bucs.

Muncie. I forgot about Rogers, but I think he only played with Archie one year.

I attended every Saints game from 67 to 92. Also attended many training camps when Archie was playing. Teams were terrible. Only time he won Player of the year was when he had some support behind him and decent coaching.

Payton and Eli would be chasing his records if he been with a team like the Niners, Cowgirls, Dolphins.

yes but no defense, and Muncie and Chandler did not stay around for long.

worst post ever. as someone who watched those teams, Archie was the only bright spot many seasons for the Saints. you, my friend, belong on the Rant with statements like this.

so if brady or peyton were playing in oakland right now, oakland would be a good team? i find fault with this logic. there is only so much improvement one player can make in a game that is so dependent on all 11 guys

I have meet several players from when Archie played and they all have said that he was much better than people realized. They all have said it would have been interesting to see what his career would have been like if he had been on some other teams. Two of the players were Joe Namath and Merlin Olsen and they brought it up. I never asked t hem for this information we were just having a conversations about football. I was also sharing how most Saints fans had suffered for a long time.
I ran into these players because we have a family friend who has been a successful football agent.
Take it for what it is worth but most players who played then do believe Archie was a great QB on bad teams.

Please.......If you are too young to remmber seeing him play, refrain from giving your opinion because it is worthless. If you do remember seeing him play and believe that he is the reason for the poor Saints records during those years.....Wow! You are a really fricking stupid.

Archie Manning "wasted" a very promissing career in New Orleans.
