Pretty much SPOT-ON with what I've been saying for about 2 months now. He is NOT head coach material--for all the reasons listed below and supported by the data in this article!

He has no guts and it bleeds into the fabric of the team. He's a pussycat... clearly his players feel zero pressure or expectation of discipline or excellence!

He MUST be relieved of his duties ASAP!

Payton built an organization with a culture of winning, excellence, accountability. The longer Allen remains in his position, the more that culture will erode and become one of apathy for excellence. Every day he stays on the message to the organization is that its okay to be (less than) mediocre!

The numbers showcasing HIS lack of aggression (i.e. no confidence or swagger) and the lack of team discipline with zero improvement as the season has gone on are STUNNING, but what I expected to see when someone pulled the data together.

?????? that Gayle and Mickey have the brains and the guts to admit the mistake and move on!!!

Allen is an important piece of the rebuild going forward.

The Saints need to do three things over the next 18 months. They need to start accumulating picks for the 24 draft. They need to take as much cap dead space as they possibly can in '23 by getting vets off the team and replacing with young players with upside. They need to lose as many games as possible next year.

Allen is the coach that guarantees the 3rd item. You shouldn't bring in a coach until you have prepped the roster and cap situation for success moving forward.

I would agree except to the point that when a HC you want becomes available you get him then or lose him.

This team is not in a position to hire a permanent HC until the above is accomplished.

Any coach you bring in is going to fail for the next 2-3 years because of talent and no money to upgrade it. The fan base won’t care who it is they’ll want him gone, potentially FA won’t want to come here if a coach has been losing for 3 years.
Allen is the guy to start the ship through the storm and unfortunately for him he’ll take the fall for it.

Ownership should hire a Consulting firm that specializes in head football coach searches. Do it now, and in secret. Make sure it stays secret. If a marquee name arises, make the moves necessary to make it happen.

Until then, DA is a placeholder. He's fine as a loser HC because this franchise is going into a "losing mode" for a few years. This is a full Re-build.

Disagree about "any coach"

Payton would be 8-5 AT WORST with this team.

This team is lacking aggression and confidence that must first be displayed by the head coach. Instead Allen is unintentionally instilling a culture of unaccountability, passivity, cowardice and losing.

Another year of him might lose more games and get better draft picks... that also is another year of DESTROYING the organizational culture that Payton and Brees left that SHOULD have been able to keep going... a-la Cowher to Tomlin or even Dungy to Jim Caldwell in Indy, OR EVEN Dungy to Gruden in TB.

I’ve got some bad news for you. The next coach will not be a marquis hire. This franchise is now viewed as a subpar option.
