So I know people say there is holding on every play. But I can’t even begin to count the number of times this season I have seen a player hanging on Jordan when Jordan is a step ahead of them on the way to the quarterback. There is a ref right behind the QB so there is no excuse for blatant missed holds. I don’t pay attention to as many other elite defensive ends but do refs allow more holding against the better defensive ends in the league?

Absolutely, but I see players that are a step behind him hanging off of him and no flag being thrown. I just don't get it. Is it just understood that you can't stop some players so the refs allow a little more against those great defensive ends.

I find the biggest problem with Jordan is that he NEVER complains to the refs

Anything can happen when it’s entertainment and not a sport. Welcome to the NFL.

You probably notice it more because it's our team. I have no doubt that elite rushers like Melvin Ingram and Robert Quinn probably get held just as much if not more.

It always makes me wonder.

What does the NFL tell the officials?

"Don't call offensive holding unless it's really obvious. And even then, flip a coin."
Is that it?

Yeah that's another thing I love about Jordan. He never ever complains. Although I think sometime it would work in his favor. But that characteristic is something that I really like about him.

what amazes me about him is that not only does he not complain, but he always gets his hands up - he has to be approaching the team record for batted basses at the los.

Holding won't get called unless a lineman gets a hand full of jersey with his arm extended, a lineman gets his hands outside of the defender's frame and physically redirects him or it directly affects the play. As in that specific hold broke open a running lane. It's better this way. You think people complain about too many flags now? Imagine if they called holding every time you think it's holding.

Well those are the ones I’m talking about not being called. I see players hanging onto Jordan as he is a step or two past them. Very blatant holds.

Initially, yes. Eventually teams will catch on because a holding penalty every set of downs will cost you a game. It will force coaches to focus more on proper technique and play will be much more clean.

I also am a fan of the warning method of refereeing. If its not egregious enough and it's a player's first in the game, ref can give them a verbal warning. It doesn't slow down the game and it lets the players know the referee's expectations early on. Having played I appreciated that rather than giving up a first down off of penalty and getting blasted by three different coaches on the sideline.

My issue with not calling holding is it's being allowed in the interest of protecting franchise QBs. What about the safety of defensive players? I've seen some downright blatant holds across the neck on Jordan all year, most of them uncalled. I don't mind a lineman holding on if his hands are inside the numbers and his arms are properly in front of him, that's "allowed" holding. If your arms are extended and holding onto a player in any way, it's a hold.
