Starting off at the 25 is just too good to turn down the vast majority of the time.

Add in that almost every return is penalized if you get any yardage

This. There is a preemptive flag every return to punish teams that run it out. You could put 10 guys in oven mitts and there would be a hold somewhere.

Yes
The league rules are obviously forcing it
It’s so obvious they should just eliminate kick offs and start at the 25

There are times when it may be worth a try but not today for the Saints ESPECIALLY after the 1st Ko.

I agree, but only because shaheed appears to be too valuable to our core offense to risk on special teams. He’s not a big guy. Don’t want to see him getting hurt back there like Harris when we are currently counting on him to be a top 3 WR for us this year.

Shaheed is a good player but it’s not like he is Tyreek Hill or anything.

No one was pretending his is.

I saw some great stuff yesterday and some concerns. If our O line gets cleaned up we will be a force though. Also getting Kamara back in a few weeks will help massively.

with Kickoff returns, there's basically only 1 positive outcome and multiple bad ones.
I don't see the point in doing anything but take the Touchback 90% of the time

I'm pretty sure he meant Top 3 WR on our team which he clearly is. (behind Olave and CGM)

And if he was Tyreek, you damn sure wouldn't risk putting him back on kickoffs unless you had to.
At this point, I agree with the OP: unless you have a dedicated returner that is all-world (think Dante Hall for the Chiefs), it's probably not worth trying to return a kick these days - you'll rarely get better field position than starting at the 25.
That said, though, the NFL won't get rid of the kickoff for several reasons:
- For teams that are behind near the end of the game, attempting an on-sides kick to preserve possession is a staple of the modern NFL game. Taking it away (without something to replace it) would never be approved by a majority of owners.
- Same situation, teams that are behind may elect to try a return for better field position, even if there's a low probability of any actual benefit.
I think the only way you ever see kickoffs eliminated is if a rule like the one that was just voted down is approved.
Just my two pennies worth, ya'll.
