Wish my son was wishing I was still here for this game. I've seen almost all games in stadium or on tv since 1st game in 67.
In 2011 son's 6 year old watching Saints game with him asked where the honey badger was .When son informed him that honey badger only played for LSU his response was " every team needs a honey badger".
Seems like yesterday I laughed at that but been 5 years since cancer took son at 35. I will talk to his now 13 year old during game today.

Sounds like you and I had the same dad. Great story about the oysters. I would shuck those oysters at five years old using a hammer.

Lost my dad Jan 8 2012 to cancer.

My dad was 66 when he died July 2012 from renal cancer. Suddenly became ill April 1 and died 4 months later July 25. At least they got to experience 2009.

Man these threads always get me. Lost my grandpa 3 months after Katrina. He loved the saints and every Sunday we’d go over for lunch and watch the games. I hate that he never got to see what became of the saints, I doubt he’d believe it

Hope he’s watching with all of your family members

Lost my dad In ‘10 to pancreatic cancer. I remember him losing 20 pounds in a month and could barely freaking walk around the time the saints were in the super bowl. He fought like hell to make it to February. Screw Cancer, but the fact that he got to see the saints win it all was pretty awesome

Aw shite man. Literally teared up reading this. A pain that few understand, but still far too many.

Just grabbed my son, who has been in his Drew Brees jersey since Friday morning before school, and gave him a huge hug.

Glad your grandson still has his grandpa to experience this with. No doubt your son, his dad, takes comfort in that as well

Amen brother. Sorry for your loss.

My dad's my best friend and struggling mightily with health issues. Countless ball games, road trips and overall Tom foolery. I miss him already.

I certainly understand your feelings, I lost my 95 year old dad right after the LSU-A&M game in 2017. He was a lifetime LSU & Saints fan. We had been going to Saints games since 1967 season & there was no bigger Drew Brees fan. We watched all the games together so it now always seems sort of empty without him screaming & cussing watching the games with me especially at a big moment like today...

Sorry for your loss. My Dad passed away in April 2018 and he was also a huge Saints fan and trained me to be one at a very young age. Hopefully the Saints can make both of them proud today.

True story. An old man in my city was like every other resident here a big Saints fan. He never played the game, grew up poor, finally got a TV probably in the late 60s and lived in a rural area with one TV station available.

He was in the hospital on death's door and his kids were with him on an off quite a bit and he told one of his daughters that week he was going to live long enough to watch the upcoming Super Bowl since his Saints had finally made it.

Sure enough he did, watched the win, and told his kids he was ready to go. He passed the following week. Every time I see the daughter closest to my age I remind her of it and it brings a smile to her face.

Older brother died in March 2018.

The blocked punt came right at us that special night.

Many other special memories involve us and football. I know he'll pull strings if he can

My mom died November 2009. She was reserved and wouldn't express her fandom, but she watched every televised game. She would always proclaim the Saints would never win a Super Bowl, but then again that just tells you how long she followed the Saints.
