Most people really have no clue how bad some of Jimbo’s assistants were.
They really don't. The miscommunication on our OL was something you see in pee wee football, and snapping the ball with 1 second left on the play clock every play let the DL maul our OL before they could take a step.

Clap wasn’t good at LSU. They will improve with him gone.

taking a WR in the third over a QB meant we were CLEARLY in win now mode.
no, it wasn't JUST that, so if you need clarification, i'll be happy to provide....
and just so you know, me saying they are "win now" mode, or whatever, was NOT a critique, it was an observation.... i never once said it was the right or wrong way to go about it....
but you can continue assuming that it was, while conflating the issue, that's cool...

Eh maybe, but mostly because no one knows who he is and are going off what others ranked him predradt. However I really didn’t think about the need for a 3rd OT in jumbo packages before the draft. We really lacked depth at the position and we use 3 OTs pretty frequently. Plus with Armstrad always hurt, it gives us flexibility at the position without needing to shuffle the entire line. Regardless, if a fourth round pick is able to make meaningful contributions to the team in year one, you have to be happy as an organization. Payton has a clear vision for him, so I think more than likely he will get a lot of meaningful game snaps and much needed development/experience.
What is interesting is if we switched the rounds when we took Clapp and Leanard, I doubt many people would be upset with the pick.

WHATS Hard to understand is that most of the “better” tackles were tapped out physically and on the football field. They were all average with little ability to ever be good enough. Sometimes you have to use picks to swing on the talent that you think this guy has a chance to be special.

Pretty consistent in every thread on both boards bashing Will Clapp. Sucks? Freshman All American at right guard, first team All SEC as a sophomore at left guard, first team All SEC as a center as a junior, Remington finalist, gave up 1 sack in 3 years, voted team captain and graduated in 3 years. Also go actually watch some tape you moron

It’ll be all right.
Just pretend we drafted him in 4th and Leonard in the 7th.

No need to pretend. Both these young men will have an opportunity to make an NFL roster. Seen enough 4th and 7th founders have great NFL careers. Nice to see a local kid get that shot

Im fine with the pick, but in the 6th or 7th round. Real players on the board in the 4th

How does this even matter? If we took Clapp in the 4th and Leonard in the 7th, would it have made any bit of difference?
We had a hole at OT. Not just because of the lack of a backup OT, but because we play a significant amount of snaps in our Jumbo package. He will get the opportunity for early playing time in an important role. It made the position a priority in the draft. This kid looks to be a very good run blocker, but fell in the draft due to a lack of experience at the position, not because of a lack of talent.
He may washout. We may find someone else that takes the tackle eligible role away from him, but lets not pretend that he was a wasted pick.
