I agree SFP we could have traded down and maybe got a later 2nd and a late 3rd if we moved back far enough and still probably got Porter. If not we still could have gotten Connor, King, or Smith. This was a big reach.

he ran a 4.37 at the combine
even so, king still ran faster
i was just figuring porter ran at his pro day b/c he did worse than 4.41 at the combine. i didn't even look it up

King takes 4 of the 5 main athletic measurements
still, its not like we are talking 4.31 compared to a 4.55 or something
plus Porter has better on field production, which I know in your eyes doesnt really matter, but in GM's eyes usually matters most

with who? You can't just trade because you want to. Someone has to be willing to trade with you.

According to ESPN King ran a 4.309 that is pretty much the same time to me as a 4.29. Now Smith was alot slower. I do like that we saved alot of money today by not going after Lito Sheppard. I still would have liked to get Shockey but I guess we can still pursue that some more in this offseason.

SFP, have you actually watched King play? He was terrible and got benched for a little while. They showed a clip of James Hardy owning him just a little bit ago. King is talented, but he's a big risk, which is largely why he hasn't been drafted yet.

"Tracy Porter, who doubles as a return specialist, may have inched closer to first-round consideration with a 4.29 40 at his Pro Day."

No doubt that's why we didn't get Shockey. I wanted Shockey because I thought he was the best value for that pick. I'm sure the Giants looked at the talent pool and wondered who they would pick with the 40 that would be a better value than even a disgruntled Shockey.

Porter lacks good strength and needs to become more physical both versus the run and in coverage. However, he is a quick-twitched athlete capable of blanketing wide receivers in man-to-man coverage. Porter also is a playmaker in coverage, as well as the punt return game ...

King has flashed playmaking ability in coverage but his inconsistency is concerning. King has some tightness in his hips, which limits his NFL upside as a man-to-man cover corner. He also needs to become a more physical

With Dallas needing a wide receiver we could have moved back to pick #61. They could have drafted James Hardy and since they also have a late pick in round 3 or one of their two picks in round four we could have gotten that. I am saying we could have got Porter or King much later than 40.

king had 23 pass breakups and 3 picks through 3 years (31 games). 0.74 plays on the ball/game
porter had 16 picks and 24 breakups through 3.5 years (43 games). 0.93 plays on the ball/game
the difference in production isn't that much, especially considering you don't have king's likely progression as a senior. porter has the edge, but it isn't a major edge

so a difference of 13 career INTs doesnt widen that gap any?

he was VERY solid in 2006, but fell off in 2007 (Which is why i didn't know why he came out. i think there was a big...difference in opinion b/w him and the coaching staff there)
