Upon returning, Williamson is subject to a mandatory four-day quarantine period. He must also test negative for COVID-19 during each day he's outside the property before being granted entry back into the bubble.

So he can take a test each day he is gone. If he is gone for 7 days and passes each test, he can come back and quarantine 4 days.

But if he tests negative every day July 17-23rd (7days)

Quarantines Jul 24-27 (4days)

Cant he play in Game on July 30th?

There are people on twitter saying it is 4 days UNLESS you are gone for 7 days or more.

So who the frick knows

Yep, if this is a 1-2 day thing, Zion could theoretically return for the first game. BUT, that's assuming the situation only calls for his attention for those 2 days, he starts his testing today, and the Pels don't require him to return to the bubble and go through a practice or two to get back into game shape before the first game. I just don't see that happening.

That math checks out, but can practice during that time? That's a lot of time with no practice.

Alright so clarification from what I gather:

He has to test positive each day he is away. If he does, and returns within 7 days, he only has to quarantine for 4 days.

Hopefully he’s not like all of you and wears a mask while he is gone

That's not how I'm understanding it, but I could be wrong. I don't think he has to return within 7 days, he just has to have 7 consecutive days of negative tests before returning to the bubble for his 4 days of quarantine. If he tests positive, he would have to wait 10 days before returning to the bubble for a 4 day quarantine.

So theoretically, Zion could tend to his family without taking tests (not that he would) for the next 2 days, then start his timer and test negatively for 7 days, then return to the bubble for 4 day quarantine?

I mean if someone close to him is seriously ill, he probably wants to be with his family to support them.

Re: Zion sitting out when he returns

All depends on if he tests while he’s away. If he tests daily, he can return in 2-4 days. If he doesn’t, he’s looking at a minimum of 7, all the way to 14.

Zion Williamson will quarantine for 4 days upon return to the NBA's bubble if he has a negative test each day he's outside the bubble if he's gone for 7 days or less, or each day for the final 7 days he's gone if longer than that. If he doesn't, he will quarantine for 10 days.

This. They'll give him a fast track special provision because he's the face of the league.

Bird Writes Twitter
quote:

With Zion Williamson departing the bubble expected to count as an excused absence, it looks like he'll be required to quarantine for 4 days once he returns -- provided he tests negative for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) each day he's away from campus, per league protocol.

So my interpretation was wrong

Someone explain this to me like I'm 5.

It's very confusing.

The way I read it is that if he's testing, say, daily when outside of the bubble, if he can show 7 days worth of negative tests, then it's 4 day quarantine.

So let's say he leaves the bubble for 5 days. If he's testing outside the bubble each of those 5 days, plus we can safely assume the additional 2 days of negative tests while in the bubble, and that's 7 days of negative tests. So he could, in theory, return on 7/21, then quarantine for 4 days.

Probably the easiest way, as I understand it, is basically if he's testing negative daily outside the Bubble, it's just 4 days once he returns.
