Zion was at the CD vs Newman boys game. After some photos w/ kids he talked to the parents and one asked how much longer until he plays? “It’s longer than like- my knee stopped bothering me like a few weeks ago. Now it’s just getting in basketball condition. Like..5 weeks max.”

Here is the video of Zion from last night saying “5 weeks max.” Tough to tell if he’s saying 5 weeks from 3 weeks ago or from now. Still believe he is sandbagging the timeline to cushion it. Smart money is on 1/16 or 1/18.

Well shite if the focus is on getting him in better shape I’m not even really that mad. I want them to fix the conditioning thing once and for all and just keep him in his best shape. Still frustrating if true. I want to see the man play!

how long does it take this guy to get into basketball shape lol

Ouch. You guys and gals were so sure that he’d return next week. I gave up on a timeline once I figured Griffin and company were playing mind games with the fans. I’ve been in the I’ll believe it when I see it camp since they started doing damage control late last year.

Probably the right approach, but I still believe it is the 16th or 18th.

I think they’re trying to change his whole physique if we’re talking about 5 weeks plus the 3 his knee has been okay. Like cutting weight and rebuilding muscle. But I swear idk how much fat Zion really has on him. He seems like solid muscle with a little thin layer of fat.

If it really takes him another 5 weeks to get in shape (which coincidentally puts him right around at the all star break), then maybe we should shut him down and look towards next year.

I agree with that, but I really don't think that is or will be the case. The way the Pelicans are posting about him it seems like it is extremely imminent.

I'm just frustrated that they originally fed us a 6-8 week timeline when its increasingly clear that never had any realistic chance of happening.
They knew enough about Zion's body and how it reacts to not exercising, as well as how crazy conservative they were going to be, that the 6-8 week timeline was just complete horse shite.
And at this point I'd prefer they were just lying to keep people optimistic, because if they were that clueless as to how this was gonna go, that really doesn't give me a great deal of confidence they have any idea they know what they're doing.

I really think they are waiting for the playoffs door to shut before officially shutting him down. If he gets to week 5, the door may shut by then. I’m basically reading between the lines and it says after the all star break, he’s getting shut down.

Dude's out there doing in between the legs dunks, traveling with the team, doing two workouts a day on game days, practicing full 5 on 5.
He's not getting shutdown.

And I’m pretty sure he could do all of those things at the 8 week mark. I get that you want to be optimistic but I don’t see it from where I’m sitting.

I'm just looking at the measured ramp up in production, news releases, comments, etc.
They've been very deliberate in releasing information that shows a progressive ramp up in activity towards an obvious goal.

Without context within the supposed conversation it's hard to say if he was joking with the parent or not.
Either way, I'm with Bunchie...they aren't shutting him down. If for nothing else than to get him acclimated to the speed of the NBA game...can't do that in controlled practice settings or summer league (which he will not participate in next summer)

Wanna lose season ticket holders for next year?
Do that.
Do that.

This point of view that he should be shut down for the season is absolutely ridiculous. The only way he should not play this year is if his knee is not 100% healthy. Zion, as incredibly gifted as he is, has to learn how to he an NBA player. You can only do that by playing. It would be a mistake to the team and Zion to not play him if he's healthy.
Posted on 1/8/20 at 11:16 am to 50_Tiger
Right. If he's healthy, and by all reports he has been healthy for weeks, he has to play in some capacity.
Even if it's 5-10 minutes a game off the bench and no back to backs, he needs to be out there.
There might be some in his team pushing for him to not play because they want a Rookie of the Year award, but he needs to play.

This is the only organization in sports that can turn that injury into half a season

i rather him not play at all than a cock tease of < 10 min a game here and there.
