re: Zion 7 of 17, all from 2, with 6 TO’s

I don’t see how any watching games can think Zion is a top player that will lead you on deep playoff runs. He’s basically Julius Randle this year. He doesn’t have the elite burst he had before the injuries.
I’d like to see how Zion does with a different coach, but I don’t believe he’ll ever be a top 10 player.

It pisses me off to constantly come to this board and see the same idiots blaming every loss on Zion no matter what he does in the game. It is as if he can never do any right because of certain biases that many have regardless. Anyone who actually watched the game (instead of waking up and reading a boxscore to form their opinions) would not be blaming this loss on Zion in the least.
There’s definitely a lot of blame to go around from Griff on down, but I disagree with the “anyone who actually watched the game” comment. I watch every game and in no world is my 50 mil a year player shooting 7 of 17 from point blank range with 6 TO’s and garbage defense, not a problem. It’s especially frustrating when it’s juxtaposed against Morant, a 6 foot few inches guard, blocking shots of 7 footers, grabbing rebounds and playing with a different level of intensity from our guy.
He has to be that guy if he’s at that salary for us to be really good regardless of Willie or Griff. Lineups with Zion aren’t ideal at times, but it’s damn hard to get the perfect lineup for an awful defender who only has a left handed layup in his arsenal. I’d also love to know of a way to see a stat on opponents offensive efficiency after a Zion missed shot or block. Typically, Zion ends up under the baseline, with a 5 on 4 for at least 8 seconds every time this happens or worst when his shite gets swatted back in his face.
He needs to be traded and yes we will not get the value we think we should but he’s not going to be that guy here and I don’t think you can win with who he is as a player making that kind of money.

A few of those 5 "blocks" were fouls not called
eh maybe 2 or 3. but he was also fouled probably 6 or 7 other times going to the goal that wasn't called. He sure as shite isn't getting that phantom call they gave Ja at the end of the game b/c if they did he would literally be taking 50 free throws a game.
We all know he's not being reffed fairly. It's a problem, and it without a doubt contributes to him making bad decisions.

He would have had more assists if the players he passed to would hit the shot.
Well he'd have to actually pass it to get the assist. He was doing that earlier in the year, but that's been almost non existent recently for whatever reason.
BI had 19 potential assists last night, and ended with 7 assist.
Zion had 4 potential assists last night, and ended with 1. He's averaging 9.7 this year, 9.2 last year. Zion has averaged 6.5 potential assists in the last 4 games, while BI is at 12.3. BI averages 10.9 this year, same as last.

Having Herb as your kick out threat for 3 is not going to get many assists.
I do'nt have a problem kicking out to Herb. He's proven he can get to the rim when you kick it out to him.
Herb has shot 38% from the left wing since entering the league, compared to 30% from the right wing and 33% from the corners. Maybe keep him on the left wing more. just a thought. and Herb is 10/19 from the right corner this year, and 4 for 27 from the left corner. Maybe keep him out the left corner too.

Would be a very interesting stat to see indeed.

quote:Definitely. Zion isn't a good enough defensive player to take plays off, and he takes too many off after a miss where he thought he was fouled.

A guy like Giannis can do that, because he's going to make a million plays on defense. A guy like Zion cannot. Same reason Luka gets brought up and ridiculed for doing, he doesn't play enough defense to excuse something like this.
Side note: Not sure if it was discussed, but with under 3 minutes to go last night, BI had a play where he missed an offensive shot, I think he fell down, so I get that he'd be the last guy up, But he didn't get across half court until like 16 seconds left on the shot clock. Just completely inexcusable shite that a coach should be lighting into any player for, star player or not.

Good stuff...on Herb & BI/Zion. I've pretty much given up on Zion. Just a very weak Batman relatively speaking.. Sit him down, tell him if he loses some serious weight...we'll trade him wherever he wishes to go. My jury is still out on BI...
Gotta figure out the best way to allow Herb & Dyson to contribute on the offensive end. Herb has improved this year, finishing at the hoop...just doesn't get many opportunities to do so. Needs more of those. His right corner 3 "stuff" is becoming a large enough sample size to warrant a serious "look into"...especially when compared to his left corner. Herb should get 5 3s and 5 "goin' to the hoop" shots per game. Forget ANY shot beyond 7' or so...except 3s, of course. Herb still learning how to finish at the hoop but getting better at it. Needs to slow down when goin' inside. He currently has no "auto pilot"..and has to figure it out on the fly. Terribly hard thing to try & learn from scratch...AFTER entering the NBA.
Dyson just MUST gain some confidence. He's better than he thinks he is...offensively. This Pels team is goin' nowhere with their current Batman & Robin. To me...Trey, Herb and Dyson will be the key...as to where the Pels are headed. Build around them...get offensive pieces that actually "fit"...into today's NBA style of offense.
