I’m not completely writing the Celtics off at all. But Kyrie was hanging out with Brooklyn players last night. And now the Nets can possibly get a Kevin Durant or Jimmy Butler to move with him. Talk of the Lakers and Knicks for Kyrie wouldn’t scare me if I was Ainge. But this deep Nets team, adding two max guys would definitely have me concerned.

To play devils advocate, I believe if the Celtics don’t deal, they could not only lose Kyrie, but also Hortford and Morris. They have a lot on the line.

No way Ainge gives up Tatum AND Brown now just for AD when AD is just by himself and will leave the next year

Great now they traded their best pick away for an average wing who is about to make 18m a year lol, instead of having a rookie we could pay 16m over 4 years. This Potential Brooklyn deal is getting worse and worse.

This completely takes the Nets off the board for Anthony Davis

Disagree, it still leaves open the option of the Russell sign and trade. Not likely, but possible that he doesn't stay there if the Nets plan on pursuing Kyrie and Durant.

I hope the Pels don't pursue something there without Russell though. Even after this trade, I'd have the Nets at 5 behind Boston, Lakers, Clippers, and Knicks.

I don't really think so. They no longer have 17, 2020, or 2021 (Stepien Rule) available in trade.

I think this is a signal they are out of the running. They are going to try to acquire stars with space.

They need to renounce Russell’s rights in order to sign two FA’s. This ship has sailed.

I'm completely fine with Tatum/Smart/14/Memphis pick+filler like Robert Williams+future picks if it came to that.

They could do a Davis trade and then sign one FA.

But they aren't going to do that until he's 100% not in their future plans

Yeah, I think that's the upshot of all this: Nets out of the running but Russell will almost certainly be a free agent now. Ultimately this might be better for the Pelicans if they have an interest in signing Russell and can persuade him to come to New Orleans.

Exactly

He'll be left with dick in hand while falling completely behind the other contenders.

I don't see it

Does Boston have the ability to clear enough space to sign a Butler or someone else if they trade for AD and Kyrie walks?

No, not unless Hortford turns down his player option(or takes his ETO, I forget what it is).

This feels like this puts Boston in a no win situation.

With 2 NY teams with 2 max slots available (and both trying to trade for AD), is landing AD alone enough to keep Kyrie if you have to give up most of your wings in the process? If you trade everything for AD but still lose Kyrie, do you have any hope of keeping AD?

On the other hand if you don't trade enough to be the winning bid for AD, Kyrie is as good as gone and you're a team who's best player is Jason Tatum. That's just not good enough, we saw this with the Jimmy Butler Bulls and the Paul George Pacers.

I don't care if Boston is the winning bid or not, I just don't want them to fold early and let other teams lower their offers. It's really crazy how high the stakes are for the teams trying to trade for AD. David Griffin's personal preferences can reshape the Eastern Conference.

This is not the type of deal you want to rush, but if I’m Griffin, this Nets deal has me escalating the process. I am calling the Knicks tonight to throw in more picks etc. I do think you can play this game TOO long and be the one holding the bag.

It would be an added benefit if we could cut salary in the AD deal now, even if only a little knowing Russell is a possibility.

Prince, LeVert, Dinwiddie, and Allen still isn't enough, but I think that may be better than a Clips offer. I would still consider Boston, NY, and even the Lakers to have stronger offers

Nothing in that Brooklyn offer is a tier 1 asset, IMO. Both SGA and Shamet have more potential than anyone in that Brooklyn deal.
