Yes, not even close.

They have the best 2 players in that group, 2 MVPs. That group of 4 is clearly better. That's the same group that won 73 games BEFORE Durant came along.

Like I said, you're essentially saying that NOP is a Paul George away from being the GOAT team.

I would still think they're a better overall team, if we're including their current bench vs ours.

If it was just playoff basketball, I think we could win vs them but it won't be some surefire bet. This team is a legitimate 3&D sf away from being consistently 50+wins

No the argument was if we would be a title contender (meaning we could compete for one) if we added a PG level wing---and the answer to that is yes, of course we'd be a contender.

If the pelicans win tonight, are they officially in the playoffs?

Yes. That would give the Pels 47 wins and the Wolves and Nuggets can each get a max of 47 wins but they play each other again so only one will get to 47. 47 may only get you the 8 seed depending on tie breakers, but it would get the Pels in.

that's one point. the Pels would be in the mix but not a favorite by any stretch. they'd be a legit 3 seed as opposed to whatever the seeds look like this year.

there's also this, which is completely absurd and should be laughed off the board

Adding Paul George (one of the top 2 way players in the league) to the core of Davis, Cousins, and Holiday would be better than GSW easily.

I think if you don't consider benches AND you're very generous with what you think Cousins will be when he returns, you can say that the Pels with PG13 are about as talented as the Warriors but probably provide Golden State with more matchup problems than they provide the Pels.

No, NOP with George has zero chance of beating a healthy GS, none.

And that was the initial argument, then the poster in question specifically stated this group of 4 would be better than GS's, which is LOL absurd.

Yea kinda like how the Cavs had 0% chance at beating the 73 win Warriors you keep gloating about. I'm not saying we'd be a better team but to say we have no chance at all to beat them is retarded.

Hell I think with a healthy Boogie this year we'd have a chance to take a game or two from them.

that's fair. that hypo Pels roster would be a great collection of talent. some concerns though- in addtion to Cousins injury, fit/role is another question mark. like a said, a legit 3 seed and dark horse contender.

the Warriors have an incredible group of individual talent that also is about as seamless a fit as you will find among that caliber of player.

with that 4some, i think the Pels would score plenty on GS, i don't think they would be able to stop them enough (diminshed Cousins on defense will not be pretty). and i dont think anyone beats a healthy GS by outgunning them.

i do think the Pels record is a bit soft this year for a variety of reasons. the wins count all the same and there has been real progress, which needs to be celebrated and enjoyed.

yet progress isn't always linear and it is not always sustainable. i think they are closer to a .500 win team than a 50+ win one. still have lots of work to do in the off-season to get better

Agree. I think THIS version of the Pels is a 41-44 win team if you restarted the season today

But I also think that the Pels team we were getting a week or so before Boogie went down would be a 54-58 win team. I think they were starting to become THAT good

Good news, Mike, they are a 46-48 win team in real life, so you don't have to worry about your 41 win alternative version of the Pels.

I would agree with that re: Boogie Pels. it was always going to take some time to jell, but they looked to be starting to figure it out.

Boogie recovery is the big unanswerable question, but there's not much they can really do about it. filling in gaps around that Davis/Holiday/Cousins trio and refining roles/responsibilities need to be the goals this summer

That team didn't have Kevin Durant.

Not if both teams are healthy, no chance.

How soon we forget this is the greatest team ever assembled.

Going upwards of 58 seems high, but it does stink that the team just started playing well when he was injured.

That team that beat the Rockets was turning a corner. The defense was coming along and would probably have been a top 10-12 D to go along with a top 3 offense.

You put that version in a time machine and take it back to the regular season and they win mid to high 50s with solid injury luck. PLUS they still would have made a trade on top of that

'96 Bulls won 72 regular season and a trophy, '97 bulls then won 69 and a trophy.

Ok, maybe the 2nd best team we've ever seen, at worst.

Doesn't change my point that we're certainly not a Paul George away from being on the level of one of the greatest teams of all time.

and I am confident they would've won a playoff series.
