I think it’s fair to say, the Pelicans have surpassed any realistic expectations. A lesser team would have packed it in after Boogie’s injury; this team never quit. I live in Ohio, casual fans are taking notice of the Pels, as I am no longer ridiculed for liking a team with such a peculiar name. The fans I talk to think, all we need is a SF to be a contender.

I’ve bagged on the Pels’ home crowd before, as I think the team deserves better; the crowd seems more lively and supportive lately. Even though there were a few empty seats against the Spurs, it was a good crowd. They stayed after the refs and were into the game.

I expect us to beat Portland in six. If Curry isn’t playing the second round, we have a chance to win that series also. If we somehow lose a competitive series to Portland, there is no need to hang our heads. The roster will be stronger next year, with Cousins returning. This season has set the foundation for multiple winning seasons.

With a healthy Boogie, this is easily a 55-win team. What baffles me is, some people don’t notice, we are a competent SF away from being serious. If we added Paul George to this roster, we would beat the Warriors. Houston was a 55-win team last season, they added CP3, now they are the #1 seed. I think our trajectory would be similar if we added George. I think fans underestimate the talent on this roster. We have the best PF in the league. Boogie was the best C in the league before injury, I expect him to remain one of the top 3 C’s in the game moving forward. Jrue ranks somewhere between 5th and 8th best SG in the league. Mirotic is the best reserve big in the league. Moore and Miller are contributors. I hope the team trades Hill, Ajica, and a 1st for Fournier (or a similar trade).

Go Pels.

I'm so excited

Pels Bells, baby. I'll be ready to turn the blender on LIQUIDIZE for games 3 and 4.

I'm all for trading Hill/1st for an upgrade if that's available. However, I always thought the new offensive scheme had the potential to fit Hill's limited offensive game pretty well. He can handle, pass and move well enough that I can see him as a useful 2 way player. Hopefully I'm right because I think a Fournier type trade doesn't happen until January or February. Not to mention Hill playing competently makes it easier to trade him.

Shams tweeted today they are expecting him back sometime in the 2nd round. But he might be out for at least some of the series. Hopefully the Pels can take the Blazers in 6 to get to the Warriors before Curry is back.

I really like the "Defend and Run" defense first small ball identity they've built since Boogie went down. I hope they can reintegrate Cousins in a way that they don't lose that identity and go back to trying to outscore everyone. That Houston game where Cousins went down, he looked a lot like I think he's going to need to play for the Pels to reach the next level. He was working hard on defense and looking to pass as much as shoot on offense with 11 assist vs 12 shots. If he can come in and play like that then they are definitely an over 50 win team and 3-4 seed. Add Paul George and they jump to Tier 1 with Houston and Golden State.

It's not really talk. MM's sauces have had PG13 as the team's dream scenario all season. First if OKC didn't play well enough that they would consider trading him at the deadline the Pels would have gone hard after him. Now the rumored hope is OKC loses in the first, Pels play respectably, maybe even make it to the 2nd, and you can sell the 2nd round Pels + the return of Boogie as more of a contender than any other destination he's looking at. Then you get George and OKC to agree to a trade to the Pels rather than OKC losing him for nothing.

there would be at least 10 other teams with picks/ young players and expiring contracts to make the thunder an offer that is better than ours.

This would never happen.

That is irrelevant. Paul George can opt out of his last year and go to the Lakers. He controls the situation, so if he doesn't like OKC and looks around and winning is important to him, the Pels would present a pretty good opportunity for him to contend right away. Certainly moreso that joining all the kids in Los Angeles or staying in OKC where in this scenario they just got bounced in the first round.

What OKC would control is what they take back for George rather than calling his bluff and letting him walk. I doubt they'd want any of our trash, it'd probably have to be something like Niko/Moore and a pick.

1) i agree it is intergalactically unlikely
2) if it did, it would be the chris paul plan...tell OKC if they dont trade him where he wants to go he's gonna opt out and sign as UFA. once the trade is agreed upon, he opts in

all of this would have been FAR more likely had GSW beaten UTA, forcing OKC to 5 and lifting NOP to 4. pels win that series against OKC, and the players handle the recruiting from there

correct.

I don't think that SF needs to be Paul George, or another All-NBA player to get us to the next level. Khris Middleton would suffice, and is much more attainable.

I would be shocked if after Washington gets swept, that roster stays as is for next year, and if it does somehow, any struggle to start the season and someone is going to want out, whether it's Wall or Beal.

Otto Porter Jr would solve our SF problems. Maybe the Wizards go with Oubre Jr. at SF, if they fail in the playoffs.

He would, but he's so expensive you'd almost have to trade either Niko or Moore with Hill, and Hill is non negotiable. I do think Washington would consider a deal like that + some sweetener if they believe a $12-$15 million Oubre will be good enough. It'd let them rebalance a top heavy/center heavy roster some.

Didn't the Pelicans play better without Cousins? Cousins has never accomplished anything in this league. Bringing in PG13 is a good idea. Trade Cousins for him. It's not like you had any success with Cousins. You guys missed playoff last year.

Higher net rating with Cousins. They were 27-21 and things were really starting to click for this team. We knew it would take time to gel and it did. They finally started reaching their potential and Boogie tears his Achilles.

AD went superhero and Jrue decided to play the best basketball of his career. Mirotic certainly helped, too. Moore having a career best season, Rondo being brilliant at times. They collectively decided they weren’t going to miss. But this team with Boogie has a much higher ceiling. They’d be the third best team in the West right now with him.
