Why didn't they just name the team the "voodoo"

That would have been the coolest name in the league by far. "Pelicans" is too many syllables and doesn't roll off the tongue.

Only a non New Orleanian would have issues with "Pelicans." First off it's better than Hornets. It's an association to New Orleans and all of Louisiana. A Pelican is a far better bird than Falcon, Raven, Raptor, Seahawk. So here's a big
