Look at my breakdown on the last page, we can be a non-tax team while still signing Jax or Nance to a ~10 mil deal.

Starters:
CJ <- long term big deal (not max contract)
BI <- max player
Herb <- future $20+ mil contract
Zion <- max player
JV <- will be gone after contract unless he takes a small deal due to large payroll

Key Reserves:
Daniels <- new developing rookie (cost controlled rookie)
Alvarado <- cheap dependable guard great for the locker room
Murphy <- Sharpshooter (cost controlled rookie)
Nance <- Key small ball 5 (~$10 mil/year rotation player)
Billy <- I see him as a cheap dependable big great for the locker room.

I think the rest of the roster is on their way out most likely unless on a minimum. So Naji and Lidell stay. Everyone else is making too much to sit the bench (Temple, Graham, Hayes, Lewis)

Gayle Benson won't go into the tax until the team reaches the WCF. Right now I believe the Pels are between the sixth and eight team in the West. The team is still a business and not a video game. It's easy for fans to want Gayle to open her purse.

This team does not receive much revenue from local broadcast rights like others. Lakers local broadcast income is around $100M per year and that revenue is not shared.

The Pels do not need to extend Nance or CJ. It's imperative to see how the pieces fits especially among BI, Z and CJ.

We need to see DD play and hope for Trey's development.

Are you sure?

That would mean every team would average 150M. That seems high..

The MLE, which will start at $10.5 this season, is pegged to the average salary. It is a calculated amount, not something they pull out of thin air each year.

Take a look at this page of NBA payrolls. LINK I pulled that into a spreadsheet and the average of "Active Cap" was $134 million. The average of "Total Cap", which I guess includes stretched money, was $163 million. So with the top end teams spending a lot, the average team payroll being $150 seems likely, especially if you include dead money, which you should because it's part of a team's salary cap.

Benson has an operating income of $150-$200 million/year typically between the Saints and the Pelicans. I am not worried about her. Plus if I was her at her age I wouldn’t care and be spending to make the Pelicans a winner.
