re: What do you think Dumars' vision was heading into this season?

If we were going to be playing two rookies starter minutes (or at least heavy rotation minutes), then we were never going to be anything resembling an elite team, but I am sure that he thought we would be in the 6-8 range.
Unfortunately, he made two terrible mistakes in player evaluation this summer, choosing to trade for Jordan Poole and signing Kevon Looney. Those mistakes have doomed the team to mediocrity even when mostly healthy.
When we're mostly healthy, we obviously get positive play from the forward positions in Trey and Zion, and then Herb provides quality play at SG. The problem is at PG and C, and that's where the failures with Poole and Looney really hurt.
TLDR: we'd be a decent team if Poole and Looney were competently filling the roles for which they were signed.

What's wild is you said two terrible mistakes and didn't even mention the biggest one he made.

He thought we’d get on the right side of the injury bug luck and that would lead to us being good enough to make the playoffs
There were many reasons to believe this would not be the case. Many.
There was basically only one or two scenarios where that works out.
Thinking this roster was playoff ready is a fire-able offense no matter how good the rookies are.
Unfortunately we don’t have a real owner. If we did, he never would’ve been hired in the first place.

What sucks even more is that Queen is forever tied to the mistake. Even though he has the potential to be a perennial all star, he will still be remembered as the reason the Pels lost a top 5 pick.

Who the frick wanted to tank? What would be the purpose in tanking? As has been commented on ad nauseum, Joe gave away, unprotected, our first round pick when he almost surely didn’t need to. The definition of tanking is to lose so you get a better pick. We don’t have the pick. That, by itself, would justify his firing.

Everything is a shitshow, but to be fair, all indications were that Murray was progressing quickly and would be back in December. I may have missed an update since I've only watched a few games this season (a few too many), but there's been no updates. Murray legitimately may be dead for all I know.
Is the general consensus that Murray and Herb may be capable of playing now, but simply don't want to show up on account of the shitshow? I know that the forum has cooled on Herb over the past season and a half, but he doesn't seem like the type to pull that shite.

I'm confused. I thought we were talking about this year's team and its poor record. Regardless of the ultimate, long-term impact of the Queen trade, you aren't suggesting that trading up for Queen is hurting the team this season, are you?

C'mon baw, it's not that hard.
By trading away our first round pick, it signified that we were in win-now mode this year, which we clearly weren't equipped for even if we were fully healthy.

Multiple sources describe a hierarchy where owner Gayle Benson, who hired Joe Dumars without a formal search, has taken a hands-off approach. Benson has publicly stated her philosophy, telling The Times-Picayune, “I hired Joe Dumars... When he makes a decision, that’s up to him. That’s why I hired him. I trust Joe... I’ve left that in his hands.” This has effectively granted him almost total authority over the franchise, provided he stay within financial limits. In this structure, Joe Dumars operates with the autonomy of a de facto owner, while Senior Vice President, Troy Weaver, handles the day-to-day responsibilities of the general manager role. The regular presence of Jordan Dumars, however, introduces a third, undefined element into this leadership dynamic.
