I would say the better path is to clear everything but Jrue, QPon, and AD. Give the rookie and guys like Frazier, Ennis, etc burn this year. Then, get another good pick next year AND attack free agency with 50 mil in cap room, signing Jrue afterwards with bird rights.

That's how, in my mind, you can get on that trajectory. But you would have to nail the two picks, and have people agree to sign with you in 2017. Agree, not a given, but it has the highest possible payoff if executed IMO.

I think you are on to something. Realistically this seems like the best path forward. Though I am open to trading some players if they could net a better return then their cap money from letting them walk. But given the value some of these guys likely have right now that may be wishful thinking.

However with this short-term thinking franchise I worry we will never have that opportunity.

I'm personally open to any number of strategies but my issue has always been the decision maker in charge of making them. Demps hasn't given me much confidence that he knows how to build the front end of a roster.

Oh, there is no chance they take that route

Like I said before, people in the FO think there is an opening in the West. The belief is that anywhere between 4-7 is open with one solid offseason. No chance they take one step back to eventually take two forward. No chance.
