You can judge this link in the chain without saying the entire chain is net positive.
Solid tweet from Mason Ginsberg:
quote:

First: What I'm not going to do here is eviscerate the Pels for mistakes they already made & have been sufficiently discussed.
Context for why the trade needed to happen is fine, but it's immaterial in relation to how the Pels did on this specific deal. Value out vs. value in.

You can’t justify the value out for value in of this trade without bringing in the larger context.

And then you have to selectively ignore things if you want to make it look like a net positive.

Otherwise, you back into why we gave up a first and a pick swap to move two players for a moderate rental upgrade that Mason Ginsberg himself also says isn’t exactly a great fit. Won’t space the floor, and might be on the move himself before long.

And the answer to that is because we created a mess we needed to clean up before moving forward.

If we do something incredible with the cap space or manage to get a home run at 17 still, the ends will certainly justify the means. Griff will make up the difference and then some.

This attempt to argue points you can’t defend, and continue to take opposite positions on unironically, late into the night, won’t look any less silly thought

Morant is definitely a superstar.

At first I was a little upset that this thread morped so hard from discussing JV or this trade to re-litigating past grievances.

I do like that the thread has turned into an attempt at a Bronc intervention - complete with concerned friends and acquaintances and with the expected lashing out from the subject of the intervention.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this intervention has been effective in the short term. It was still a noble effort though, and maybe on reflection some of it will have a beneficial effect.

The people in denial about how bad Griffin has been for this franchise are astonishing.

his 3 pt shooting improved during playoffs.

He shot 32% from three in the playoffs, which I guess is an improvement from the 30% he shot during the regular season, but still below average.

How did JV work with Ja? Seems like Aja’s style is somewhat similar to Zion’s in that both like to attack the rim. Was spacing with JV an issue for Ja?

No, it literally just cost us a first rounder and a pick swap, per just an hour ago.

And it literally cost us sending a first to OKC to get Adams.

1 + 1 = 2 last I checked.
You're failing to acknowledge the limited upside of the picks that were traded. It's not like we traded 2 unprotected firsts for the Adams situation. One is a lottery protected pick for a perennial playoff team, and the other is a top 10 protected pick from a team that is more than likely going to be a top 10 team.

Picks are valuable for their potential, you remove a ton of that potential value when you insure that they aren't going to be in the top half of the lottery (or in the lottery at all in the case of the Nuggets pick).

Not all first round picks are created equal.

Now, the Pels have to give up ANOTHER first rounder to now move Adam’s and Bledsoe. They have to move back from 10 to 17, and all you are getting back is a one year rental of JV.

That’s terrible roster and asset management.

by the time playoffs started only a couple posters were keeping bledsoe.
I was done long ago.

pels paid one of the laker firsts to move bledsoe. we've been expecting that. sad but true.
the 17 and JV for 10 and Adams is par for the course. a fair deal.
jv is a very nice upgrade.
buyers remorse or delight sets in only after we see what 10 and 17 become.
maybe deal s&t lonzo and 17 to move up.

People equate NFL draft slots to NBA draft slots. A late 1st NFL Pick is EXTREMELY VALUABLE. A late 1st NBA Pick has relatively low value probably equivalent to a 5th round NFL draft pick.
