What the Pels need besides a backup PG, although I'm content with Jose running it, we definitely need a rim-protecting defensive big who can guard the likes of Embiid, Jokic, Giannis, etc...

Looking at Daniel Gafford's #'s, he is averaging 2 blocks a game, scoring 10 pts and grabbing 8 rebounds per game.
He is making 12 mil per year and is in the 1st year of a 3 year deal.

I'm thinking he could be the backup big who we need to realistically target and it wouldn't break the team up to acquire.

Pels receive: Daniel Gafford
Wizards receive: Dyson Daniels, Cody Zeller and J Robinson-Earl, plus a 2nd rounder for good measure.

The math checks out. Trade accepted

I’d like to get Gafford as well, and I’d be ok trading Dyson for him, but I want at least 2 2nds back if not more. I assume they wouldn’t throw a 1st back at us.
Dyson has more value than Gafford.

And fyi don’t use ESPNs trade machine. It sucks.

Trading Dyson for Daniel Gafford is the type of dumb move a bad franchise makes. Hopefully we don’t do that

1st off we didn’t trade Kira to get out of the tax only to go right back into it by trading Dyson for a 3rd string center

2nd We are already at 13 players, we would have to sign 2 additional players putting us even further into the tax.

3rd JRE is on a 2 way deal, he has no value to anyone and theres zero reason to include him in a deal

I don't know much B ball but I'm not trading DD for a back up.

Especially an overpaid backup.

A name that hasn't been mentioned much: Jakob Poeltl. Fits the mold of defensive anchor C, rim-protection, rebounding, quick feet to switch onto perimeter players, screen-setter, high IQ passer. Basically a realistically available Jarrett Allen type, but less athletic and a bit older.

Would allow Pels to start Trey in place of Herb for the boost in offense, without the drop on defense. Not saying he would be my personal top target, but I could see Griff and co. targeting him as the JV replacement.

Why Raptors do it? Well, Masai just admitted in a press conference he traded for Poeltl last season to give the OG/Siakam/Fred group a real center as a last chance season for the leftover championship core. That group is gone now, and they just pivoted to a younger, rebuilding group.

What would it take? JV outgoing for sure, then for lux-tax purposes, either Daniels or Nance would have to also go out. But Daniels too valuable in a deal like this, so it would have to be Nance plus a protected pick.

My framework of what Griff could do:

Poeltl and Thad Young (exp.) to Pels
Gafford and Nance, WAS 2nd to Raptors
JV, Pels 2024 prot. 1st to Wizards

Pels consolidate for a defensive anchor starting C, Raptors get younger and cheaper replacement for their rebuild, Wizards get a 1st and expiring.

Ofcourse he is, he went to a high pace offensive team that doesn't give a shite about defense.
