Too many wide open shots on blown coverage, ad was right to call Ingram and adams out for terrible communication and over guarding in pick and rolls leaving their man open

Defensive IQ has been getting worse and worse by the game.

It's like these guys forget what they did the game before and start with a whole new mind in the next game.

Not even close to it. They are getting beat by teams using basic pick and rolls. They can see the same exact play 10 times in a row, and look lost every single time.

Ask me how I know.

I almost get the feel that they do not buy into the defensive scheme. They are working way too hard on the defensive end the way SVG has them running from one side of the court to the other on switches. Adams is lost much of the time as he is probably not comfortable having to come out so far on defense. I am a little surprised at how poorly he has been able to guard the PnR. It looks like a freaking fire drill every possession.

I wonder if that is on Adams or...

Adams is doing exactly what he is supposed to be doing and others are not, leaving him to have to go Chinese Fire Drill to cover for those that aren't doing their job.

Listening to Locked on now, and Jake is talking about how poor Adam has been lately in 1 on 1 and rim protecting.

He seems to be about ready to push the panic button on Adams.

The common comments from players (Thornwell) and Antonio Daniels is that a lot of the bad rotations and being out of position are on guys helping when they shouldn't. I believe AD pointed this out last game with NAW basically doubling a guy in the paint that was covered fine by HernanGomez. So NAW's out of position which ends up compromising the whole defense. I definitely would bet on guys besides Steven Adams being the ones making the mistakes.

Example 1, Adams sees Bledsoe is beat, helps to let Bled recover, gets back to his man, Bled gets beat again, but looks like Adams allowed a wide open man to run by him

Probably a little of both. However, I have been surprised at how poorly Adams has played lately on defense. Not sure if he is still hurting or just frustrated. Plumlee beat him at his own game last night.

The issue with the defense is clearly a lack of trust factor and overhelping. There's definitely some pressing going on by several guys to deny dribble penetration. We are doing a poor job on the perimeter staying in front of opposing guards off the screen. I'm starting to think that we will always have these issues until we land a good and long on ball defensive wing that can tie this defense together.

SVG has tried everything. Aggressively protecting the paint and dropping the bigs while collapsing the paint and he's tried to aggressively denying dribble penetration with the bigs by aggressively trapping and we've even seen zone coverages and nothing has helped.

I no longer think the issue is coaching and it's 100% personnel. They need to find a vocal guy on the perimeter who can lead this defense. It's not happening with this group as they are.

Ugh... that’s horrid isn’t it. Adams literally doing everything correct and Bled not giving 2 fux.

Zion almost looks like he can’t see the dude coasting by him and doesn’t even motion to cover.

I agree that the entire group can't or won't play defense, starting up front with the 2 guards, and next BI and Zion have problems! They all don't move their feet and get positioning, don't deny passes, and run and jump at shooters... no in your face, belly up defensive posture!

I think they just have a team with some young defenders, a new coach, and very little chemistry.

Time is the only thing that will heal that.

Additionally, with shooting up in the league due to a practice like atmosphere during games makes it even more difficult to handle spacing.
