Too many are looking at it in the lens of a starting caliber 4. Those guys don't usually sign to be back ups especially for cheap and in a market like NOLA. You can probably trade for one but it won't be cheap.
The best way for them to get one is to draft and develop one themselves. That's what we're hoping for with Liddell. They're either extremely high on the kid or they feel Williamson turned the corner. I think the former is where their feelings are.
Besides, if Zion goes down for a significant amount of time, it probably won't even matter. I think it'll be by committee anyways.

But he's essentially a rookie so if he does work out it won't be until the back half of the season. To start the year they need a better answer and that is probably why we heard our name attached to Rudy Gay. Temple would have come back on a minimum deal after being cut if the team wanted him back. Looking to fill his roster spot with a vet min back up PF seems like the move to make.
Agreed. What I think gets lost in these discussion is the fact that rookie bigs are almost never positive players their rookie years. And that’s meaning top ten picks, much less guys coming off major injury. And I’m not talking about 5-10 minutes, I’m talking about 48 minutes when Zion doesn’t play.
We need to stop with the “if healthy” discussion. There will be injuries. I’m not saying we’re going to win a championship with Zion on the bench. But we need to not go in the tank when a couple guys go down.
An actual backup PF would be a hell of a start. Someone who is a big body that can rebound and protect the rim even to a nominal amount. But mostly just a real rotational player that knows what he’s doing.
And trust me, I realize the off-season isn’t over, much less the trade deadline. But man I’ve been beating this drum for years, it hasn’t been addressed and it’s hurt us repeatedly.

Correct.
The people that are worried about PF are just weak minded and always stuck in the past.
Zion is healthy as of now
Liddell is healthy as of now
Nance is healthy as of now
If one of them go down or get hurt then bitch. If Liddell sucks AND Zion/ Nance are hurt then bitch.
And anyone saying “well this is how it’s been”
Cool then go cry in a corner or find a group/ therapist to talk about how much that upsets you and how much you suck as a person
Be happy that we have a fully healthy team to start the season and stop being pussies
Y’all think I’m not worried about our teams health?
I am worried but everyone is healthy so I’m not going to create a non existent issue to make myself feel bad
fricking weirdos

No sarcasm.
What are people worried about?
Zion getting hurt? (We have Nance, Liddell, etcc)
Nance getting hurt? (We have Zion, Liddell, etcc)
Liddell getting hurt? (We have Zion, Nance, etc)
Worried about all 3 being out for the season or that Liddell is unplayable along with Zion/ Nance being out all season?
Well that’s a dramatic “what if” and I’m not a bitch so I’m not going to put my brain through that much torture to get worried about that.
And we also don’t have 8 roster spots to prepare for that (no team is prepared for that). So it either doesn’t ever happen or we are fricked (just like any other team would be in that situation)

Not worked up.
Just have to talk a certain way to retards like you who say things like “we may be lacking a backup PF” when this is the most depth we’ve ever had to play PF in a single season.

The suggestion that the Pels might benefit by using the open roster spot and stashing a Trendon Wafford to develop with Liddell, or maybe an older vet with a bit of tread left to help backup and mentor the young guys inside does not seem like disaster seeking to me…particularly when that is the spot of our most talented and injury prone player.
Failing to insure your new home doesn’t make you a savy business person, it’s just reckless.

Oh bullshite. Don’t make this about “getting someone to develop or to mentor others”
That’s why Liddell is here and we would have brought Temple back on a min for your other reason.
This is a straight doom or gloom conversation about us not having ample PF depth right now in preparation for the season.
In preparation for what? All 3 of those guys being unplayable for the whole season??
Has any team ever signed a player in the offseason in preparation of losing all 3 of their starters in the same position?

The answer is no btw.
We have (2) more PF’s to start this season than we did to end it last season.
I will take that information and choose to be optimistic instead of thinking all 3 PFs will die half way through the season.

Nance has been exclusively our backup 5.
Nance is a center(5) because he plays center(5). That’s all he’s played here and what he will play here this season.
65% PF, 35% C in 2021
81% C, 19% PF in 2022
Stop spewing factually inaccurate info. Nance is arse at the 5 anyway. He should be the backup 4, the focus should be to add another center next to JV and Zeller

I guess we're going to have to find out if his 2022 season was based on need because of the lack of viable options from both Hayes and Hernangomez or if it's the direction and vision they had for Nance.
His 2021 season was such a limited sample size, it's hard to use that as a gauge on how we'd use him going forward.
If we are going to have him play more PF this season, you have to believe that Zeller is going to be a big part of the rotation behind JV.

Nance just compounds the issue at the 5 if that’s where he will play majority of his minutes. Not to mention that he has a hard enough time with injuries
His size and length is actually an advantage at the 4
Another warm body at center will actually give you optimal flexibility imo

65% in 2021? Lol. Come on now. He played 9 games. Are we really arguing he isn’t our backup 5?
I am not against the idea of adding a backup center instead and playing Larry at the 4. Like I mentioned, I would worry a lot about spacing with Larry next to a big. But he would be one hell of an improvement compared to the hole we have currently.

That’s not the argument.
He didn’t have a choice to be our backup 5 last year. He was our only backup 5.
That doesn’t mean he is a 5 or even should be, or that we even want him to.
He is most effective as a backup 4 and we really need another REAL center to develop/ play behind Val because Nance is NOT that.

It’s why I’m really high on Liam Robbins and his potential. A 7’ 250lb center that is known for his defense and rebounding.
PF: Zion/ Liddell/ Nance/ Trey/ BI/ Herb
C: Val/ Zeller/ Nance/ Robbins
And we still have 1 roster spot/ 2 way. So we could add another 2 way rookie center and have a legit 7 man rotation at PF/C (without Herb/ Trey/ BI)
We are fine
