Lets see how this team finishes off the month of January. You would think that a good bit of these games are very winnable but you never know since this team plays very inconsistent basketball.

@Memphis
Vs Portland
@NY
@Boston
@Atlanta
Vs Memphis
Vs Chicago
@Charlotte
Vs Houston
Vs LAC
Vs Sacramento

Something like 7-4 would put the team in a decent spot but most of us know that is very unlikely just based off of the basketball we have seen so far this season. My prediction is 6-5 but I'm really hoping for 7-4.

We are currently 1.5 games back of the 5th seed.

The goal for this team moving forward should be to secure that 5th seed so we do not have to face GS, Houston, or SA in the first round.

One thing I think everyone is forgetting about with the last PTAO season, the outcomes alternated until they didn't. QPon and Cole arriving to replace rotation players that shouldn't have even been in the league made a world of difference. Hill replacing Dante and SF Moore can hopefully bring some of what QPon brought, but they still need to make a move for a guard and maybe a big.

And they also need to continue their insane injury luck. All I see is the best case scenario that Hill comes back and we have everybody on board. History says the far more likely probability is that some of our main guys go down for a few games. Jrue, Boogie, and AD have played in like 115 of a possible 120 games or something like that. That is unlikely to also be the case for the second half of the season.

They're due. You even talked about it before the season referencing the 07-08 year as the last relatively healthy year for this team.

I wonder if they even put a phone call into Bogut’s people to discuss a potential role here.

A few minutes a night for a guy who can rebound well enough, pass out of the high post, and set screens. He’d already be better in that role than Asik.

They don't have the roster spots currently. I'd really hate to burn Diallo just to dump Ajinca for a rental, but a Diallo + Ajinca for a guard trade makes sense. I would think Atlanta would consider that for Belinelli. I wonder if you could throw in cash and/or a future 2nd and get Dinwiddie from Brooklyn for that. A move like that frees up a roster spot and enough cash to sign a minimum guy like a Bogut or bought out Greg Monroe.

That is what needs to happen.
Ajinca/Diallo for a guard, then go sign a vet big man to just give you 8-10 minutes a night, and maybe more when AD/Cousins are in foul trouble.
I can't see Brooklyn giving up Dinwiddie for that little, but I would absolutely love to have him.
Lineup of Dinwiddie, who's 6'6" and leads the league in arse/To ratio, Jrue, Solo, AD, Cousins is a pretty stout defensive lineup.

Our current record is 20-19. Therefore, we will go 5-6 to conserve PTAO.

Considering the hole at PG and the Pels lack of resources to fill it, and that Dinwiddie is cheap for one more year, maybe Carroll with Dinwiddie as a throw in should be the main target. You still have to find a way to dump Carroll in the offseason to avoid the tax, but it might be worth figuring out if you found a cheap and competent 2 way back court mate for Jrue.

The only games I can see a definite L for is against the Celtics and Rockets, the rest of them are very very winnable to me, but this team, who knows?

The Clippers are a traveling infirmary. As long as we avoid a serious long term injury to Jrue or AD, then I think we finish ahead of them.

I kinda feel like Dinwiddie will be a lot harder to acquire than people think.

He fits the Nets timetable and strategy of acquiring cast-off young talent with upside. Him and Russell appear to be building blocks of that franchise, for a team that has not had high draft picks to build around.

I really hope I’m wrong because if we could get Dinwiddie and Carroll that would be a major step in the right direction.

I don't think we are that desperate for a 3. Solo and Miller will do just fine there. Jrue and Moore are just fine at the two.
A better PG would upgrade this team, and there is an absolute need for a backup big.

You could trade Ajinca/Diallo and some kind of pick for Dinwiddie/Acey, which can happen b/c the Nets are still $3M under the cap. They stay under the cap, and we get further away from the tax, and cut $3M from next years salary. Not sure how feasible that trade is though.
That would put you around $87M next year before signing Cousins, and the ability to create more room by stretching Asik, I believe $8M so you're at $79M. I would think that is more than enough to fill out the roster. Cousins gets $31M so you're at $110M.
Dinwiddie/Jackson
Jrue/Moore
Solo/Miller
AD
Cousins
No draft picks and that leaves you with 6-7 roster spots to fill with about what, $14M dollars to stay under the tax? 4 minimum guys cost $6M, so you have $8M to sign 2 more guys, assuming we have some exception to do so, and get your roster to 14.

that sound about right?

As you said, I don't think we can make it work next year if we take on Carroll. We'd have to get rid of him, or someone like Moore for basically nothing in the offseason. A move for a an expiring like Belli helps us more for next year, assuming we are sending out Ajinca/Diallo.

Am I in the minority in that I'd rather face San Antonio than Minny? I'm not just thinking about this year's record against them both, but in my mind, they're just a bad match up for us in the back court (counting the 3 w/ Wiggins).

there's still no reason to lose to them without him.

such a wuss i swear, and i'd say that to his face, well his chest, but i'd be looking up at his face.

He's missed 5 full games (surprising 3-2 in those games), been thrown out of 1 before halftime for being a dumbass against Minny(loss) and lucky he wasn't suspended for more, missed a 4th quarter for some groin crap against Utah(loss with a 10 point lead when he went out), played 5 minutes early on against Portland (Loss), missed the second half after a bobo on his head against Denver in that embarrassing blowout (only down 10 when he went out, lost by 32), missed the second half of last night(win).

5 games he's missed, make that 6 now. and 5 more that he didn't play in at least the 4th quarter.
11 games out of 40. 4-6 in those, we'll see if tonight can make it 5-6.

11 games missed without any real injury to speak of that kept him out long term, just knick knack stuff. The three injuries he's had that made him miss full games, two from jumping for an alley oop and landing with minimal contact (knee last time, ankle this time), and the other from straining his assductor without being touched.
Maybe we should quit throwing him alley oops since he doesn't know how to land without hurting himself.
And maybe he should play center and take some contact. He doesn't seem to get hurt when there's contact.
