Made up some lost ground tonight.

With so many teams in contention for the 8th spot though still think 41-41 is what it’s gonna take to guarantee a playoff berth. Would need to close out the season 14-5.

To get there we pretty much need to run the table in our remaining home games (9-0) and split the remaining road games (5-5). Still an uphill battle. Need to get off to a strong start and win the next 2.

It wasn't Dame Time tonight. He shot 6 out of 16 from the floor and the Blazers lost. That's huge for us.

This upcoming road trip is going to be really tough. We need to win two of these next four.

And then, I think we'll be favored in 14 of our last 15.

538 had our playoff chances at 44% at the beginning of the day. They have us at 55% right now.

Blazers 19%
Grizzlies 16%
Kings 8%
Spurs 2%

Right and the next 2 games are toss ups. Jazz and Clippers are likely losses so hopefully we can handle our business in the next 2 games.

Just about but we’re going to lose a couple games we’ll be favored in. Hopefully that’s it.

12-3

That would put us at 41 wins, but with Gentry I think we finish 12-7 and come up 1 or 2 games short of making the playoffs.

ETA: ftr, 538 has us finishing 12-7 and sneaking into the playoffs at 39-43. They have the blazers and grizzlies finishing 38-44.

The Jazz are not that great, and I think we match up well with them, so I definitely don't concede that game, though of course the Jazz should still be favored in the game since it's on their court.

Tonight, the Grizzlies are at home against the Hawks (one of three easy games they have left), and we get the dilemma of the Blazers at home vs the Kings. I'm pretty sure that I'd like to see the Kings win that one.

We still play the Kings so we could beat them to get to the playoffs. We don’t lay Portland again so we have no more control in affecting their record other than we have a tie breaker.

The Hawks should be relegated to the Australian league. What an embarrassment

Do multiple shoves count as a punch? CJ McCollum might have gotten himself a time out. I guess the Kings would lose Alex Len too.

Just two days ago, 538 considered the Blazers to be our biggest challenger to the #8 seed, at 27%. Two losses later, they are down to 10% and behind the Grizzlies and Kings. Current model projections, with chance to make playoffs and projected record:

Pelicans 55%, 39-43
Grizzlies 19%, 38-44
Kings 13%, 37-45
Blazers 10%, 37-45
Spurs 2%, 34-48

In today's games of note, we're on the road at Minnesota, the Kings host the Raptors, and the Spurs visit the Cavs.

Overall, we once again have the easiest remaining schedule (by opponent record), and Memphis has the 2nd-toughest. LINK

Definitely can, we just have to handle our own business...

43-39 is probably out of reach now (damn you Minnesota), but we can go 41-41.

That would have us finishing the season at 14-5.. If we cant do that with this easy schedule we dont deserve the playoffs

So just do something we’ve never shown the ability of doing with this coach?

Cool

I’m in a weird spot with the Kenny Atkinson news.

I really see him as a perfect long-term coach here.

However, I also worry that if Gentry makes the playoffs Griffin will feel the desire to keep him around another season. If we miss, I think it really frees up Griffin to do all the things he might be hesitant if we make the first round.

....On the other hand I really want the guys to get into the playoffs and experience/see what playoff basketball is like so they can have a clear vision of how they need to develop/play in order to eventually dominate in it.

We've actually been pretty good against sub .500 teams, we just need to keep that up and not overlook any like Minnesota

makes it interesting.

the scenario of winning 8th by 1 game over memphis means the two memphis games tell the tale.

visualize Lonzo at the line for 2 ft, down 1, with .5 seconds on clock.

I just don't see Gentry staying as coach.

He's 66, and there's no way he will be able to grow with this roster..

That's why I believe Griff just kept him for this season while he has time to evaluate the roster, office etc, and will bring in a younger coach that he sees as his long term 10+ year guy, while giving Gentry a "promotion" into a different less stressful role
