There is a growing possibility that Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball will need a third surgical procedure on his right knee that likely would require another six months of recovery and rehabilitation, sources told ESPN on Thursday.

Ball, who hasn't appeared in an NBA game since Jan. 14, 2022, and has been ruled out for the 2022-23 season, has undergone two surgeries on that troublesome knee in the past 14 months. The belief is that a third surgery is likely necessary to give the former No. 2 overall draft pick his best opportunity to play again, sources said.

Seeing this, why are guaranteed contracts good for the sport?

Great, the player makes a ton of money for basically doing next to nothing. But it stops someone else from getting that money and the team suffers.

There should be some kind of offset. If you play, you get the full amount. If you miss a game for whatever reason, you only get 40%. Or something similar.

I care about this so much since both of our stars miss a bunch of games. I'd bet things would be different if they made less missing games..

Will never ever ever ever ever happen.

Just curious, with whatever you do for a living and whetever company you work for, if you got hurt on your job doing your speciifc work duties, would you be ok if your work didn't have to pay you until you returned? People love to tell others what to do with their money when they'd never want the same shite done to them.

You lose me and most people when you start comparing the careers of individuals with generational, disgusting wealth to the average person just trying to support a family.

I will never have any sympathy for ultra millionaires paid to play a game. Most have insurance policies on themselves anyway.

I generally agree but the question is absolutely valid in this instance.

It's pretty silly to call for someone to not be paid when injured on the job if you wouldn't support the same for your job.

We're not discussing having sympathy for players though

I feel like injuries are part of the game/risk. The NFL isn't perfect but I like the salary structure better.

You could say NBA stars are the equivalent to NFL QBs. But unless you're the retard Browns, not even NFL QBs get fully guaranteed contracts.

There are other players. Him not playing doesn't help or elevate anything. That's a spot taken from someone else.

Of course. But they are in talks now. I bet it's a topic and a lot of owners would like it addressed. You're going to be for it as well if Zion never gets healthy. We can't win anything with a 1/4 of the payroll sitting every game.

I work a desk job remotely. I can work hurt and sick. So I never miss any time.

If I was hurt and couldn't return to work in a timely fashion. I would have to go on disability or short term disability, which I think is quite a bit less than my normal salary. So everything I described applies to me..

All correct, doesn't refute anything I said though. It's laughable that you think Lonzo Ball has done "next to nothing" since January 2022. Do you really not realize how incorrect that is? Like, seriously?

No, I won't.

You've only ever worked remotely, never in an office? I find that hard to believe. Seems you just found a way to avoid the question because you know I was correct because it's only blatantly obvious.

What has he done? Train? Therapy?

I've worked in all type of places. I'm not sure how I avoided the question. I answered it in the next paragraph. I wouldn't get full salary if I'm hurt indefinitely. No one would.
