I think you're argument falls under the "no shite" category. Pretty much everyone would agree even before the draft that Clarke would be a better day 1 player than Hayes. Clarke is a solid role player (5) with the upside of being a good starter (7), Hayes is a project (3) with the upside of being an All Star (9).

Clarke will also be 23 years old in September.

Why does this matter?

why does having a 23 year old body/maturity and 4 years of college experience matter when comparing to a one and done 19 year who played 20 minutes a game as a freshman

Clarke is athletic but he's 6'8' with a 6'8" wing at 207.. he's the exact type of guy who should play well vs young immature summer league talent, but he's got something else coming when he steps in with the big boys. He will have a role but he wont be able to do what he wants any longer

That’s all and good but these guys are being paid right now. Your timeline basically means Hayes will be at the level of Clarke when he is looking for a second contract.

I’m not trying to make an argument for Clarke just generally speaking I think people overvalue NBA potential vs finished products.

Nobody knows how long it will take Hayes to develop. Some kids develop rapidly once they hit the NBA and others take a long time, while even more never pan out.

Hayes' athletic ability, quick reflexes, and great hands are ridiculous. He got crap coaching in his short time at UTexas and will be getting legit coaching now. Hell, Favors will likely do wonders for him as a mentor. He'll also be in a professional team training program. He doesn't have to be rushed here and that is why he was the right pick for down the road.

Furthermore, you'll have 3 potentially upper tier players in your system under your control for a good 7-8 years at a reasonable price. Think about that.

Barrett regularly missed open teammates with the ball in his hands and tried to force his own offense rather than making the easy play. He has a long way to go with his decision making before he can successfully initiate offense at the NBA level on a consistent basis.

same as pre draft scouting report.

I've said it for a while and i'm fine eating crow if im wrong, but RJ = Wiggins 2.0
