re: Swapping Ball for #6 is extremely poor value

Surprisingly, it looks like he is coming, and he could play out his contract here. Gentry covets him. And his dad is ok with the trade. Crazy turn of events.
He can succeed here. He is now a "young vet" going into his third year in the league, and could make a jump with Gentry, a veteran coach who has seen everything, which is something he didn't have in LA. He also wasn't playing alongside anybody like Jrue Holiday, who is now a veteran, and could take him under his wing. And our medical staff will keep him on the court. It's going to be interesting to see what happens with him.

All great points. Things to look out for.
I haven't watched many Lakers games because they've been awful, but my read was that Ball is not the typical modern PnR/attack the paint PG. He's more of a table setter/entry guy. Great on the break, but in the half court, he just keeps the ball moving- which fits in with the "ball has energy" philosophy. I don't think he's got the quick enough first step or the finishing chops. But he is smart and will fit in with a read/react motion system
I'd like to see him work on post game- Pels sets where Holiday would post his man were always bananas- and obviously his spot up shooting.

I love everything about Lonzo, even since he was at UCLA, except for he can't shoot. I would rather sacrifice a little defense for a PG who can shoot at a respectable clip that defenses have to clear the lane to guard him so Zion and Jrue can get to the rim.

He shot just fine at UCLA. No one thought he was going to be a sharpshooter at the next level but they definitely didn’t think he’d struggle that much in the pros. I think he can be a competent shooter/scorer but it will take the right system and the freedom to play his game. Like DLo confidence plays a big role in his performance. I’m not ready to say he can’t shoot.

2. He was a 67% FT shooter at UCLA. Why did he regress? Is there more to the story? Maybe the role LA boxed him in?
His sample size is really small and I think FT thing got to him a bit.

I agree- being away from the full blown hype of LA & the fact he was #2 player picked could do worlds of good for him. The pressure will not be the same in NO and this may also be his chance to tell dad that he is ready for the change and embraces it. I am willing to give Ball a chance and will no longer take a negative view of him- let's see what he does on the court this year. However, I am sure management will detect quickly if he is not up to the challenge and he will quickly be packaged off somewhere...

I wouldn’t mind swapping ball. As others have said, he hasn’t developed yet. He’s still young and can turn into a premier point guard. However, I would trade him for the #6 pick, draft culver at 4 and garland at 6. This gives you a wing and pg. garland has a nice defensive game that would work well here

Ball gives the pelicans a primary ball handler. If they resign Payton, that gives them two ball handlers. Holiday hates being the PG, he gets to be the 2.
Why is having Ball being viewed negatively?

Depending on how much space they have they can sign shooting in FA.

Aahh.
Trade ball for 6.
I'm taking Culver4 and Clarke6.
With Zion, jrue, mighty defense.
Yes still need pg.
Free agent market.
And you get a player back for lonzo.

Ball has potential but his current game doesnt fit. IMO, it comes down to how the rest of the league values him. If u can flip him for a better fit, u do it. If u dont like the options, keep hom and hope he develops.
I know this is about Ball but I will take the time to say, I am pumped about B.I. He could end up being a stud

I'm a fan of balls game and he was improving a lot. His free throw percentage is garbage, but i think he could flourish on this team with all the athleticism around him. Hopefully he can put the drama aside and just play ball.

I'm thinking the Daddy Ball will be less of annoyance to the Pels than everyone is expecting.
While brash & loudmouthed, he will be very pro-Pels in interviews and is already highly anti-Lakers.
Now unless he's negatively vocal about the way Gentry or Griff is playing or paying his son, I could see a potential problem. But the honeymoon period should put that off for a season or two.

I loathe Lavar Ball as much or more than anyone. Trust me.
But I will say, Lonzo seems to have distanced himself and Lavar even seems to have calmed down. Lonzo was never the problem to begin with. If people would stop sticking a mic and camera in Lavars face it’ll be fine. Hopefully he turns his efforts towards the other sons.

I will say this in defense of Lonzo’s FT shooting, there has to be more to it.
He shot nearly 70% in college and you don’t just suddenly drop 30% going from college to the pros. Nothing changes.
I’m hoping he just commits to rebuilding his shot. As it is one of the unheralded things the Pels have seemingly done for several players already: Gordon, Evans, Davis, Cunningham.
If Lonzo could just get back to around 70% and have an Austin Rivers style reboot of his jumper Lonzo would go from solid starter to fringe all star pretty quickly.

When you are hoping Zo pans out like Rivers...

yes
Lonzo needs a steady diet of andre Miller film to watch

Didn't the warriors like to post up Livingston?
Posted on 6/16/19 at 8:42 pm to STEVED00
Ball is a tad overrated, imo. As such, his value is the highest right now. Maybe he develops into something amazing but I don't see it. And yes, sadly his dad is a factor. You don't want that around Zion.
