Jabari Parker, Marcus smart, and Kyle Anderson are 3 names I can think of off the top of my head that would be great fits. Are just out of money to offer any real FA left out there aside from the minimum?

Can’t afford any of those guys.

We still have a TPE we may be able to use with a tax team or take an uneven trade.

There also may be a few guys this year signing for the minimum you wouldn’t expect in order to get a starters role because the money has dried up.

So we aren’t done...but don’t expect any Marcus Smarts.

Look for trades, minimum deals, and resigning Clark.

We should just sign all 3.

ESPN reported Smart is expecting a 6M deal for Marcus Smart and 10M for Jabari Parker. Are we so cash strapped that we can't afford to sign a 6M dollar guy?

Smart would have to be via S&T and I see no reason why he or the Celtics would do that.

Do you understand how the NBA Salary cap works?

I know the answer is no. So...no, we can’t afford to sign someone for 6 million.

We’ve also used our exceptions.

We can ONLY:

Use our trade exception we got in the QPon deal to take on salary.

Sign players for the veteran minimum.

Make a trade, sending out salary. We can take on an uneven trade salary though (send out Ajinca at 5 mill and take a player that makes 8 mill, for instance).

That’s it.

That doesn’t make any sense. How does Golden State get to sign all the star players it wants and we can’t sign Marcus Smart for $6 million?

Just pay Parker the exemption amount and slip him 10 mil on the side

Because Gayle Benson is poor. She wants to move the team to Seattle. It's obvious.

OKC is going to spend 300 million on its roster including the tax for being over the cap. How is this possible. Like why can a team go over the cap with current players, but not go out and over sign and pay a tax?

Because it took them multiple years and multiple moves to get there. Some exceptions like the MLE are for any player, some exceptions like Bird Rights are for specific players already on your roster. We could have been over the tax keeping Cousins but with him leaving that spending power just evaporates.

Bird Rights.

If Boogie would have re-signed we would be into the luxury tax.

If we traded for a player like Jimmy Butler, we could acquire his Bird Rights, and go into the lux to resign him, like OKC did with George.

We will be operating over the salary cap but below the tax.

Which is why I'm hoping we find some way to trade for a third all-star or quasi-all-star this year. If we can get Kemba, Barnes, or Butler (which is think is unlikely), get their Bird Rights, get them around AD/Jrue/Niko and what's been described as a great locker room, I think you're likely to keep them long-term.

If Demps doesn’t have first round picks how will he ever operate the trade market
