Paywall, LINK

but here's the bit about SKC

quote:

Everything with this New Orleans Pelicans experience needs a makeover. They have a good, exciting team they can put on the floor. But the building needs an upgrade, the color scheme needs an upgrade, the uniforms need an upgrade, and the concessions experience can’t be centered around getting a strawberry smoothie. You’re in New Orleans! Give us the New Orleans culinary experience! Nothing about going to this arena feels like an experience, and that can’t be the case with Zion Williamson in the mix.

“All I can picture about the building are the blue seats that are very obvious when they are empty. AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami fits here too. Also, not every player needs to have a special section with a cute name. Jrue’s Krewe?”

“Smoothie King Arena is just a mess.”

This drives me nuts. Agree with this part.

The arena will not see any substantive improvements until the dome renovations are done and paid for, I imagine. Could be a bit.

There is some I agree with, but the comments seem like someone that just has a bias regardless. Admittedly that person has not been here since the Cousins trade yet has all kind of comments about the Zion era. Also, that article has the OKC arena in all categories (best arena, worst arena, best crowd). Reading the article, it appears he is more concerned about the food options for the media.

SKC averages 16,505 per game this year. That’s not bad.

Oh shite hold up let's take off 100 seats.. 16,405 is that better? And btw we didn't get to fill up the arena AFTER football season when more fans show up to Pels games anyway.

In the league’s second smallest market? That’s doesn’t automatically make it bad.

Where do the Pels rank in percentage of seats sold/game?

We're talking about actual attendance, not tickets sold. You can't lie about how many seats are empty each game, but you can lie about how many tickets were sold.

Just like LSU baseball lead the NCAA in attendance. Easy ways to manipulate numbers.

only time I ever saw the arena borderline filled up thisnseasonwas Zion’s first game. After that The upper bowl is always about 50% empty give or take

All of this doesn’t matter when you put a winning product on the floor, but none of this is wrong. The arena was a half thought idea when first built and has since been piecemealed for every renovation. All to be expected from a state funded project. The concessions suck, the club rooms were half assed, need new seats.

Hell, you could buy club tickets at walk up window for less than half of what STH paid.

You can scan unused sold/comps and fluff those numbers.

Again, being bottom third alone does not make this stat bad. How does actual attendance compare to the rest of the league, percentage-wise? How do they stack up with similar population sizes?
