If lonzo is having a bad night overall, I don't see why we don't give him a couple minutes with JJ or NAW at SG. I think with his speed he can create alot of havoc in the paint and kick it out for a open 3. Thoughts?

I'm not sure what is going on. There was a great deal of praise with the pelicans pick of Kira but he can't find the floor, like at all, with this team. Very weird, especially when you compare it to the other rookies getting minutes

He was drafted as a project for this year.

Every draft pick is a project.
No player drafted 13 or better in the last few years has played 1 second in the G-League. They aren't "projects". You play them. Sink or swim.

I think SVG has hinted pretty strongly he wants to incorporate Kira into the rotation.

But the problem unique to us has been, Griff wants to win, SVG wants to win. We had a condensed offseason that didn’t allow enough space to establish the new system for both sides of the ball in a complete manner, so offense is having to be layered in during the season and in the very few and far between windows we have for full practices(which apparently have a hard limit of 2 hours this season)

I say if he isn’t seeing some minutes by game 25, I’ll start getting worried or annoyed.

this. All guys in this draft class are considered projects then for this season since they haven’t played in almost a year, no summer league, no real training camp etc. people on this board are way too obsessed with the g league. Kira should be playing

i keep hearing the excuse that we didn't have enough time to implement an offense, not enough practices, blah blah blah.
Kira practices the same amount as Bledsoe. He knows as much of the offense that he does. It's the same for all of them. If they are all learning on the fly, then that is even more reason to give him minutes.

We probably can win with Kira, especially when Reddick is at 1-9 vs pacers and is choking...

You think a 19 year old rookie learns at the same rate of 12 year vet

You think jaxson Hayes knows the offense like Steven Adams huh

Guys drafted at 13 like Devin Booker and Zach Lavine were DNPs in 3 of their first 8 games. 19 year old rooks

There are a lot of games left

He is a 19 year old rookie who last played in a game about a year ago, had almost no camp and no summer league. I would like him to get a few minutes from time to time, but would not expect he will get a lot of run, particularly early in the season.

I still think NAW should sub for BI most of the time. He seems like the only other guy on the team that can go get you a bucket without hesitation.

Bledsoe is a 12 year vet of the NBA. The guy has played in, defended, or likely drilled in games and practice almost any system, concept or play type the NBA has to offer. Kira has unequivocally not.

Players always talk about the difficulties mentally transitioning to the NBA.

I agree with much of your sentiment, and tbc I don’t agree with what our philosophy is this year, but I accept the reality of it and so I see why he isn’t out there yet. And like i said, if he still isn’t by game 25, and Gundy starts saying stuff like yeah, he looks solid but we are trying to win now, I’ll lose patience.

also putting Kira in the game basically tells whoever you subbed out that you have zero confidence in him.. or at least I bet that's how Lonzo'll take it

No we should not give our lottery pick, whom many experts said was the steal of the draft, any minutes.

We should give him some slippers and a bucket of popcorn for the sideline to watch Lonzo chunk up contested threes with 20 on the shot clock, dribble off his feet, and pass into the stands.

Just curious, how is this unique to us?

There are multiple squads with new coaches that are in win now mode that had a condensed offseason that are playing their rookies more than we are.

I’d say there aren’t a ton of teams built around three players 23 and younger, with two other second year 1st round rookies 8 and up on the depth chart, that lost their head coach, brought in a new one, are attempting to implement a new system on both sides of the ball AND are laser focused on trying to win and get into the playoffs(and not just in the way some GM’s give lip service as to not tank lockerroom morale ala the Hinkie Sixers)

As we have clearly seen our learning curve is coming together slower, and we are still attempting to fully flesh out the new offensive system.

Maybe there are some other teams like that, but I’m not really seeing them?

But like I said again, I personally do not agree with what we are doing. I think this team should be building a culture, yes, but this playoffs at all costs mentality is stupid. We aren’t that team yet and this ain’t that roster. If I am Griff I would be telling SVG just take it slow and steady and work in all our guys and if we start winning basketball games and push for the playoffs, great! If not, at least we aren’t hindering valuable development opportunities for our young guys and forgoing the chance to even see if guys like Kira are going to be the right fit and how.
