Back to our top 4, saving 9% on our top 4 players up to the luxury line is the equivalent in 2025 of $17mil extra for the rest of the roster, so I'm still not understanding why we can't pay our top 4 players roughly 63% of the luxury line in 2025 if we can pay them 72% of the luxury line while rounding out a solid roster in 2023?
Because with the 15M savings you potentially could filter through another Max slot if you filled roster spots 8-15 with cheap contracts.
So instead of just BI and Zion you can now have Scoot/Zion/insert Max player here for at least 3 years.
You still need a center which is 15M minimum
You still need to pay Jose which who knows how much that will be.

No thats not even close. You have to trade CJ or let him expire no matter what
To be fair this team doesnt have the balls to do anything extraordinary to begin with so ive settled in with the idea were a 1st round exit for the foreseeable future.

This is False AGAIN.

This is False AGAIN.
All you've done is explain why going a different route is preferable. You haven't made a single post showing how the money doesn't work if we keep Zion/BI into 2025.
If you haven't presented the reasoning by now with the 10 posts back and forth, I think we can fairly assume you won't do it going forward either so it's pointless.

Let’s just go over to Serbia and find a couple of dudes named Nikola. They seem to be legit

The Crunch is Coming
After 2 years you will not have the same team PERIOD. END OF STORY.

Jovic, Jokic, I'm even down to swing by Montenegro for a few Mirotic. This is the land of opportunity

Some 2022-2023 numbers for top 4 player cap hits vs luxury tax threshold
League average: 62%
League median: 64%
Among playoff/play-in teams
Average 70%
Median 70%
BI at 47 million, Zion at 38 million, Trey at 25 million, Herb at 16 million puts us at like 71%.

quote:I did, Shamit never once said we can't keep this core together after 2 years like you keep saying. And he also never once explains why we can't, which you haven't either. His main premise is he basically wants Scoot, that is why he chooses BI over CJ to be moved.
Dude please read this damn article.
AGAIN, show me the numbers and why it can't be done.
Our top 4 players next season are making more than Zion/Herb/Trey/BI will in 2025 as a % of the luxury tax, so we will have MORE money to fill out a 2025 roster than we do 2023, which we have a solid roster...explain it to me.

No clue where you pulled that, but that's good stuff
So we're barely above league average and below playoff teams, i'll keep being a broken record and ask why we can't fill out a roster if it's only 2% above league median and below average of playoff teams?
And again, this season, we are at 72% and we have filled out a roster that while not complete, is a solid roster.
quote:That's $126mil. The projected tax line in 2025 is $190, so that number is 66%.

Absolutely, this is not a salary issue, its a preference issue.

I used RealGM projections which were just south of $179 million. I am unsure why they're different, but I think the main thing is that we're in the ballpark of reasonability either way.
I could see the average/median coming down as more teams try to avoid the massive percentages due to the 2nd cap apron, so maybe 65% is a more appropriate goal...which it sounds like we could get to if the luxury tax threshold is 190 million like you're saying.

I'm not even saying I'm 100% correct, I'm saying someone explain why we can't based on the above numbers. That has yet to be explained or even attempted to be explained.

While on RealGM I saw where Keith Smith projected the different team/player options for this year and he thinks he pick up Herb and wily while extending Naji on a team friendly deal
I was kinda expecting us to deal Naji but if this salary cap crunch is truly coming a competent bench player who makes $5 million a year is probably a good thing to have.

He's the kind of guy that's good to have for the long 82 game season. He can play spot minutes, but when injuries occur, he can give you 25-30 minutes and not be a complete negative. That's important for a guy that can do that on a low salary.
Posted on 6/15/23 at 12:08 pm to DallasTiger45
The problem with retaining Naji is this assumption that he wants to return to be an end of the bench guy when he could more than likely get the same or more money on the market and get consistent rotational play.
We won't overpay or can guarantee him minutes as players like Liddell, Dyson, and an incoming shooter could be vying for minutes.
I think Naji will be gone regardless. He's going want an opportunity and as a wing who can dribble, pass, hustle, defend, and rebound, there's going to be a market for him.
