I know he hasn't been talked about much, but my leading candidate is Sam Cassell. I think its his time and he is considered on of the brightest minds in basketball. Cassell is grinder and a basketball junkie, who I think would do wonders will our young guards.

My second choice is Fizdale. Fazdale is a defensive guru and a no nonsense type of coach, just what the Pelicans need. He has been with teams that has won a Championship and could lead by example.

Absolutely the frick no on Fizdale.

Can’t comment on Cassell as I haven’t looked too closely but his name seems to be getting out there a lot lately.

You do realize that Fizdale has been fired twice as a head coach in the last 4 years? No thanks. Extremely hard pass, even more so than Jason Kidd if that's possible.

Cassell is an interesting candidate. Been an assistant for the last 11 years and has had many good things said about him by players. Not sure how I'd feel about him getting his first shot with us though. I'd say he's up there with other assistants who have never been coaches like Ham, Unseld Jr, Udoka. For any of those 3 and Cassell to get the job, they'd have to really impress in the interview with a very clear plan of what they want to do.

Off topic but Cassell looks like a combo of Kenny Smith and Chauncey Billups

Yes i realize Fizdale been fired twice, but look at the teams and the circumstance, do a little homework on what happen in Memphis, and Knicks or just the Knicks enough said. Bill Belichick was horrible in his first head coaching gig and fired, so was Ed Orgeron and we know how they turn out. My point is people learn from their mistakes.

Fizdale is a very bad coach. Why do people keep suggesting shitty coaches?

Because all they know of is current/former head coaches as if that’s all that available for hire

I like Fizdale ... Emphasis on defense is sorely needed. With the talent we have the offense will take care of itself, champions are built on defense in the NBA. Zo, Hayes, BI, and Jrue all have attributes to be plus defenders on a consistent basis.

He should be a guy who helps develop the defense, and helps with the culture. He loves to have his name in the headlines for his quotes and all of that jazz. He should not be a head coach.

The Knicks almost immediately got better with Mike Miller, both from a records perspective and a style of play perspective. I'd 100% take Miller over Fizdale.

I started my post with Cassell, so i know more than to look at former coaches and recently fired coaches.

Fizdale took a mediocre team to the playoffs on the basis of a tough gritty defense and a analytics based offensive scheme. Went sideways with Gasol with his insistence he take more threes. Disregard stint with Knicks with Dolan as owner.

Would have been convenient for AD to be on the Pels if they hired Cassell. He wouldn’t be the ugliest person in the organization

This article gives reason to feel optimistic about Fizdale. I don't think he's a worse choice than Kidd or Lue, but I think there are several better options.

See, I wouldn't take it that far. Fizdale would be my choice over Lue because I don't think Lue provides the main thing this young core needs. Direction and accountability. Toughness and a different mentality. Fizdale would preach these things and have us playing defense night in and night out. I really cant say what would improve under Lue. I just see another laid back 'players' coach.

What's the evidence of this?

Sam Cassell

Plenty of experience as an assistant coach for the wizards and clippers. He has helped develop point guards like Austin Rivers (trash with us, but now seems serviceable) to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. So, he probably could do the same with Zo (if we kept him) or Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who needs help with his development.

Won a few championships during his time as a player, so he knows what it takes to grind out the season come playoff time. He has been through a few different eras of basketball, which I think could show that he knows what works in the NBA vs what does not work.

Doc Rivers does pretty well with the players and seems to work well with the front office. I would hope some of that rubbed off on Sam as well when it comes to gaining the players trust and working with Griffin when it comes to finding the right guys to bring in.

I wanted him for coach since last year
