This is my concern as well at least generic and goofy names like Magic and Thunder and Heat can be marketed out side there home markets. It's a whole different ball game when you pick an unimpressive animal that happens to be your state bird.
I'm not sure the first thing the rest of America thinks of is Pelican when they think of New Orleans or Louisiana

I guess my main problem is I just hate pelicans. They've just always looked goofy and dumb to me. I'd have to wait and see what designs they come up with because right now, I have AD walking around with a cartoon pelican on his chest.

+1, if Benson selects this as his rebranded name, he will lose national sales. Thunder, Magic, Heat, and Lakers are all better from a national marketing standpoint than the Pelicans. Hell, I love the Thunder and Heat as team names to be honest.

I live here and that's not the first, second, or third thought that comes to my mind when I think about NOLA or Louisiana. It's a horrible choice for a name that will be branded nationally.

Why would they? Their Pelicans tweet was out before V's.
Didn't see any issues with the Arena improvements and those boards going up and the TP article confirming the timeframe this week or the TV contract stuff over the past several months, including last week.

People are going to buy merchandise if the team wins. The reason the Heat or Thunder or Magic can be marketed is because they are actually winning teams with superstar players... Don't get it twisted. No one is buying Hornets or TWolves or Kings merchandise because they suck, not because of their logo or colors.
If anything, a new, unique name and logo will outsell Hornets gear, all things being equal. They aren't just going to chose a name without researching the possible outcomes.
