I think he’s competent, not great.

I don’t get why people think he’s good for rookies. He doesn’t teach winning basketball. His whole thing is roll it out and go. Which worked with Steve Nash and Steph. He doesn’t teach protecting the ball. Doesn’t teach defense. Doesn’t teach winning basketball in general.
How many coaches do we need to put Gentry in a box before you’ll join us? And realize he’s the single biggest obstacle to being a successful team

The thought process of “we know Gentry is a terrible coach, but he’ll be great developing bunch of rookies and young players” was one of the more incomprehensible sports takes s group of people have ever had.
Why would you want a guy you know is terrible to be the primary influence on a young team? Also, when has Gentry ever been known as a young player whisperer? The small successes he’s had in his career all came with vets.

Thank you for your last two posts. My thoughts exactly.
We have always won despite (in spite of?) Gentry. Not because of him.
This team has always needed a good coach. We went the wrong way with Gentrys/retread.
He’s like a bad smell that still lingers. I feel he’s legitimately hurt this team and franchise exponentially, from ad down. He’s such a bad coach.

I don’t think people will realize how bad he is until he’s gone

Can you imagine if they picked an actual coach for this team back when they fired Monty over dell? God hindsight is 20/20 but I’m positive a lot of fans, even casual ones, scratch their head at this team.

Good ole apathetic Al
No sense of urgency. No accountability. The team takes on the coach’s personality

Lets retain a guy that we acknowledge sucks, because it would just be sooooooo difficult to replace him.
You just agreed to concede a season.

After the first quarter, he didn't get off the bench and coach his team one time, other than to call a timeout.
I don't know, maybe you feel like you can do that when you're friends with the guy who runs the team, and you've spent years brown nosing the owner.

Made zero sense to bring Gentry back

Could you imagine if we had fired the actual problem back then? It may be better that Gayle was in charge, though.

I have never been on the Gentry bandwagon, but this is a bad take. There were absolutely good reasons to bring him back. It gives Griffin and Langdon a year to develop their culture in the building and make the AD trade almost in a vacuum. They can make the best trade they see without worrying about coaching style. They can then spend the next year identifying the guy you think is best suited to run the team, considering both roster and cultural fit.
