Really can't believe we gave Solomon Hill 52 million dollars...

and many on this board was happy about it when we signed him.

Always hated it, but I remember arguing with McNamara and his Aspie friend at BBS about how, no, it isn’t some secret low key brilliant signing and it was in fact a continuation of Demps inability to identify and build the correct talent at the top of depth charts.
Dude caught some heat in one playoff series and suddenly people were convincing themselves he was the next prime Demarre Carroll.

Solomon Hill is why I learned to not overreact to playoff performances. Especially in a single series. Solo got hot in a few games where he was given a wide open shot. Also some people might match up well against certain teams and look better than they actually are. Really shows how incompetent our old front office was. You should evaluate players more on the merits on their talent and not numbers

It shows you how starved we were for competence at the SF position.

Solo and people wanted to throw money at bismack biyombo after his.
i remember larry bird didn't pick up his option (it was like..1-2mil) and told him in practice see you in the D League.
that's how pitiful he was and we gave him fricking MILLIONS.

Wasn’t that the season players were getting overpaid like crazy? I wasn’t a big fan of his, but I remember the biggest positive was that it was a better deal than people of similar ability for the Pelicans. And it was still too much.

Just another stupid move by a bad GM. But that GM selected AD or ZW, generational players, at # 1….

Yes. That was 2016 free agency, the Durant to Warriors off-season. Cap went up by 20 million and some teams lost their damn minds. Ironically, Solo's 4/48 was like the 9th/10th worst contract that off-season. There are some real stinkers on that list.

Solo is a perfect example of what happens when you convince yourself every offseason that you MUST do SOMETHING!
The smart play for the Pels would have simply been to keep James Ennis, who was ultimately a better player anyways, then hold their assets for the right move instead of rushing to throw away money as the small guy in an inflated market.
Unfortunately we are already seeing a bit of a repeat of history with Griff. Who, while not fatal, has already made several overpays for only marginal improvement. At the expense of longer term flexibility.

I didnt get how he was even in the nba half the time.
now that bledsoe is a pel hill is only 2nd worst.
and to make the hill story weird he was considered a helpful senior mentor on the grizzlies.
he never once looked like a weak junior high guy on Grizzlies.
aaaahhh.
