He's a force in the paint defensively.

He's a younger, bigger, better version of Mbenga.

but what has he done?

To answer your question... Yes, he hasn't done much in the NBA. But he's still young, was the second overall pick two years ago ('09), and has the talent/size to be a very good defensive C in the NBA imo.

Thabeet has astronomical potential. I'd love to snag him to add such a huge body to this team.

$9.7 million trade exception appears to be confirmed. LINK /

Later, that news was clarified to say that the five-player swap would actually be two separate moves. That’s technically true, but if we look at the deal in greater detail, there are essentially four separate components to the Hornets and Raptors’ parallel trades:

* Peja Stojakovic ($15,034,483) for Jarrett Jack ($4,600,000). As was indicated by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the Hornets will walk away from this deal with a $9.7 million trade exception.
* Jerryd Bayless ($2,292,600) for part of the Raptors’ Chris Bosh trade exception
* Most of the Hornets’ Morris Peterson trade exception for Marcus Banks ($4,487,586)
* Cash considerations for David Andersen ($2,500,000)

That's a lot of dope. I bet he can't wait to retire and get ripped out of his mind.

The more you look at that trade, the more brilliant it looks. They finally got a true backup PG and literally gave up NOTHING, in terms of assets going forward to make another move. We got the best player in the deal AND a bigger trade ecxception than we had going in.

Yeah, but they could break it up into 4 trades.

Anderson for Bayless.

Peja for TPE.
Banks for TPE.
Evans for TPE.

Sure but thats a hypothetical trade thats not happening.

For this trade to happen Banks had to be involved for the money to work, not to take him off Toronto's hands

I was pretty close.

BTW, that is how most trades in the NBA are.

ETA: Of course I had a brain cramp and put Evans instead of Jack.

I was basing what i said on what they were reporting the trade to be at that time.

Now they've taken the article down, though.

Apparently nobody knows what the hell happened.

I know.

I wasn't trying to be an a-hole. Just wanted to show that most deals aren't 1 trade even though they are reported that way.

It doesn't sound right. The only way they could have traded Peja for Jack is if the Hornets first used TPEs on Banks and Anderson. If that got Toronto 10 million under the cap, they then could have done the Peja-Jack swap(but it's hard to find accurate salary info). Finally they could have used a TPE to acquire Bayless.

I think the question now is do we go after a star or one of the guys I listed in the OP. The TPE is too small to get Iggy or Melo and can't be packaged so we'd have to flip it for an expiring first. You have to wait 2 months to trade a player in a package which means grabbing someone now to flip in January.

I gotcha.

It would be nice though if just one journalist on the planet would find out what the official trade really was. This cant be that difficult

Yeah, you would have to be certain that the person you get is who Philly or Denver want and then hope they still want them in 2 months.

If they just want an expiring, that's easy. If they have certain targets, you're taking a gamble.

I dont know what Demps' plan is but he's definately got one. In the interview with John Reid on Nola.com Demps obvisouly praised Jack, but he mentioned the deal giving them more flexibilty going forward.
