In the NBA? I had NO idea. I'm going to go research this supposed team.

Kyler is saying ownership wants the name and gives generic reasons as to why it may not happen.

It's a little more circumstantial evidence for this being what Benson has in mind.

I don't think it's absurd to consider that a real possibility.

I think, eventually, Brass will be the new name. People have caught on to it nationally and seem to like it a whole lot better than Pelicans. I like Pelicans, FWIW, but Brass is just as good locally and would work nationally. Benson needs to read the tea leaves and come out and say "Pelicans" was just a rumor and they haven't made up their mind. Then name them Brass

Absolutely the best name choice.

Per the AP, they've filed to protect 5 names, whatever that means.

Who knows? They may leak em all, one at a time. Well, probably not, but I don't think Pelicans is written in stone.

I'm not sure anyone who understood the process thought it was set in stone. It was to go to the BoG if nothing else.

The story is what was expected based on ownership's preferences. Expected is what Spears used.

Well the title of this thread is per a pretty reputable source, Right?

How does it get out from all these major sources, but now it's like "not so fast my friend" ( in my best Lee Corso voice)?

I think we all should just pump the brakes and let its course run out.

42, I think you wayyyy more qualified to speak on this than me, but coming from this one guy, who is just a fan, something is going on here. IMHO

Let's settle down on the qualifications.

Here's source article:

LINK

The title of the thread here on TD differs, perhaps significantly, from the Yahoo title.

Hornets expect to change name to Pelicans

"The New Orleans Hornets are expected to change their nickname to the Pelicans as early as the 2013-14 season, numerous sources told Yahoo! Sports."

So, there's an expectation. This is a strong statement, but it's never been in stone.

The way I read it, this is decision unless something derails it. Will this backlash persist and make a `dent'? Who knows?

With the 5 possible names, 3 of which likely appear in this article, there's room for things to happen.

More has been said, but Mrs. Gayle's description of the colors and how they changed could point to a process at it's end that is not yet formalized.

So, maybe there are just mulling things over or maybe this is more like they are `engaged' to Pelicans and they have to wait for the formal procedure and party, or the `wedding', to the name. It's hard to tell.

We should continue to keep our eyes on it, by all means.

For what it's worth, I really talked up Voodoo in an interview today, along with Krewe and Brass.

If this process is not over, and we can affect it, I figured that would be a good platform for getting the messages out there.

Numerous sources could mean McNamara and John Goodman.

That's true, but I think the Logo, colors, team history, and players have more of an effect on people's buying decisions in pro sports. There are so many teams with "dumb" mascots in pro sports but people support them.

Look at the Lakers. People outside of LA don't buy Laker gear because they think the name is cool. They buy it because they either:

A. Like a player, coach, or combination of players and coaches.
B. Liked the way the shirt or hat looked (colors and Logo)
C. Jumped on the bandwagon of a winning team and pretend to be a fan cause they don't have anything else to cheer for in Wyoming.

I guess my point is that the actual logo design/color combo is more important the the team branding than the actual mascot name itself.
