I don't understand how BI can just watch his guys get smashed by good teams knowing his offense is desperately needed and be so worried about a little toe discomfort.

Saying the quiet part out loud, but NBA players (really all professional athletes) don't care about results as much as fans do. Not to say they don't care at all, but it's definitely a job more than a passion for them.
