@Jester, I'll give you that. Rumors with reliable sources. And there are what, like 5 other teams competing? Its probably unlikely that he's a pelican, but I'm really hoping for it. And giving up guys like Roberts and rivers or even Jason smith doesn't really scare me

A general take on a potential Smith for Oden swap.
We will never win a title with Smith getting significant minutes (meaning more than 10 per game).
We MAY win a title with a healthy Oden starting at Center for us.
Plus, Smith is only under contract for one more year. We aren't winning anything this year and won't get some proven all-star in any subsequent trades where Smith is the main asset involved.
If the end goal is to compete for a championship, not just the 6th seed, then you make this deal happen.
ETA: It should be said that given that Loomis is involved, this deal is more likely to happen than if he wasn't being brought in. Most teams in the NFL had no interest in signing Drew Brees after his shoulder surgery but Loomis took a risk for a high reward. Not saying Oden is Brees so dont freak out. Just saying Loomis has shown the guts to take a risk on a injured player.

True. But you have to admit he's one of the best. Pretty safe to say during his career he has amassed a number of legitimate inside sources.

I agree. What do you lose with smith? Nothing you couldn't get next season if oden doesn't pan out. Don't get me wrong I love the guy. But if he is the best player we have to give up, then I perfectly fine with that.
