Being unrealistic was using my closer to a title claim against me by confining the move to one result.
You can't ignore the possibility of Oden being healthy. That's the reason you make the move.
When looking at the move as a whole, looking at ALL THE POSSIBILITIES....There is a greater chance of competing for a title if you execute the move than if you don't.

wasn't there a tweet about the offer of 3 million for first year being comparable offer of two other teams?

It is worth a shot kicking the tires on Oden. If he did not have the history of injuries, would we even have a shot at him? He could have potentially been a max player at this point in his career without the injuries and we would not have a shot at him. Take the risk.

I disagree with this. There are 4 teams interested. 2 of them could give me a 3 million dollar contract and still compete, the other 2 are desperate for help at the 5.

so... they still obviously view Oden as a huge asset with limited minutes... same with us.

There was a tweet about an expected $3M offer, but there was no indication where it came from. The Heat will only offer a minimum contract to him, apparently. The whole "expected offer" and no actual meeting happening just screams "false market" to me.

We'll just have to disagree there.

The leak is most likely from the agent and the amount is probably based on expectations. All the teams mentioned either have the $2.65 million cap room MLE to work with, or in the case of Miami, the $3.1 million tax payer MLE. The Pelicans of course would have to do the aforementioned S&T using Portland's cap room MLE.

And the tax hit would mean signing him would cost them $10M per year. Won't happen.

not really a false market when the pels are bringing the mick in for a sales call with a 3 mill offer.

Not at all. Two teams have nothing to lose, therefore their interest does not reveal the value they have in the player.

We have little to lose my friend. Zero serious expectations, i mean if you're crying over the loss of a jason smith... as jayjay2 would say... come on man.

Yet no meeting happened and no offer has been made.

Are you that naive to think offers don't occur without a press release attached to them? You don't think we offered Martell Webster a contract before he signed with Washington? That didn't get reported but after he signed he said he almost came here.
How does one almost come here without even an offer on the table?

@McNamara247: There will be a post up later today on BSS that will give every single Oden scenario with regard to how we could acquire him. Hold tight

Jester is still in the denial stage, give him time.
