they don't want to pay Holiday more than AD. AD is scheduled to make $23,775,506 next year.
I think that is perfectly reasonable and I don't see how Jrue could disagree. If we could get him for $20-22 mil a year I think thats a win. But the question lies what other offers will he receive?

kind of dumb if you scan the nba. steph makes less than klay and draymond. barely more than what iggy made.

Give it 2-3 more years and most of the salaries will be on the new cap. Then max guys will be getting $30-$40 and many of these other salaries will be a lot more palatable.

With that cap hold, stretching Asik, dumping Ajinca/QPon, and renouncning Dante/Cook/Toupane you have about $12.4 million in cap space plus the cap room exception which will be about $5 million.
I don't think we would operate below the cap and resign Jrue. After stretching Asik and using assets/cash to dump other players, you only have $4M above the MLE (what does that really get you?) and the room exception. Staying above, we get the MLE, BAE, $3.5M TPE, $2M TPE, Cook/Toupane and the option to re-sign Cunningham.

yea, but new signings will always be making more than older contracts, just the way it is.

How crazy would it be to have AD, Boogie, and Jrue all locked up for 3-4 years all under the $30 mil and then suddenly the cap explodes and the max goes up to $40 mil?

A better than MLE player. Is there a difference between a $12 million player and an $8 million player? I guess it depends on who's picking the players. Last year Demps did better with the $8 million player.

That's not how it's going to work. When Cousins sign his next deal it will probably start around $30-$31. AD's extension will start at $35+

If say the cap goes up that high, how much of AD or Boogie's extension would count against the cap?
Posted on 6/28/17 at 1:56 pm to DeionDeion
They will be making 30% (DC) and 35% (AD) of the cap in their starting year with 8% raises each year. When AD's extension kicks in Cousins might already be counting for 32% of the cap if the cap doesn't rise much.

Nate Duncan started their Mock Offseason last night. In it, Jrue walked away and signed a 4 year deal worth 111 mil with the Timberwolves, and the Pels ended up signing Jeff Teague to a 4 year deal worth 70 mil after dumping Ajinca with a 2nd.

Interesting nugget from Nate Pincus:
First time I have seen someone confirm that previous non-guaranteed contracts are grandfathered in.

Right. We have to overpay players in general anyhow. I think we would be better off with the depth of having the TPE's, Cook, full MLE, BAE and the possibility of exchanging Anjica/Qpon/Asikf or more useful players than trying to create space for a $12M player and only having the little MLE.

Hmmm.
I actually see NYK as a landing spot for Teague now that the Triangle is over.

I wonder if there is a way to construct a deal that the Magic would entertain for Fournier. He seems like he could be a pretty good fit. Maybe something like Moore/Ajinca plus a top 3 protected 1st? I guess that does not fill the need for another ball handler in the backcourt with Jrue.
Posted on 6/28/17 at 2:44 pm to NOSHAU
I was trying to figure that out earlier, but the problem is Fournier is $17m this year and that'll put us in tax territory this season which is what we don't want.

Actually Fournier is a good ball handler and can run the PnR very well. He would be my number 1 target this offseason if I were Dell I think he would be perfect with the two bigs. I would do it whether we signed Jrue or not.

Maybe, I think they may have recorded it before the Phil Jackson news.
