No one outside of the city wants to foot another bill for people who can’t ever get their house in order, no matter how many billions get thrown at them to fix it.

The city and state shouldn’t be held hostage by a dimwit owner that prices out everything she touches and has failed at every level of running a business personally. The state should tell her to kick rocks and pay everything herself. She has zero problems putting her money wherever she can get her name put up.
But I guess you can call this a “new” arena because they’re adding seats she can’t sell, a stage she won’t pay to have performers at and upcharge parking because she’s removing spaces to accommodate a new stairwell to a garage that’s falling apart.
Guess I would hope that someone who acquired Tom’s wealth at the behest of the archdiocese would do the right thing and leave her mark by building a crown jewel of a venue that everyone could see.
Too bad Ochsner desperately needed a Benson Children’s hospital next to the Benson cancer center.

She is also building a new Ochnsner sports medical facility right across from the practice facility. Ochsner already has one 2 miles away in Elmwood.

Sorry you have an immature approach of the situation.

because that is not how it works. A majority of the nba arenas are being built on the public's dime. you and your emotions are not going to change that.

Renovations also being paid with public dime. Start with $60 to park at Dome for an event. Sure we won’t tax them. We will get them at parking and concessions.

They’re being built on the public’s dime because they’re including new entertainment districts that are mixed use or have the ability to upgrade public areas. The area surrounding SKC is surrounded by buildings all owned by Gayle Benson. 1515 Poydras, Benson Tower, Champions garage, club 44, champions square are all hers under different LLCs.

The article says Benson is worth $8B. The Saints are worth 5, the Pelicans are close to 3. So that, and some other smaller ventures are her whole net worth. How much liquid wealth does she have? A new arena in NO could be 1-1.5B, not counting all the graft going on in the city. Where is that money coming from? Just to cover the cost of a new arena, she'll need to pull and additional 75-100M a year out of the team, if not more. I don't see that happening and there are other cities with packages ready to go.
I believe there is a deal to be done in NO, with owner buy in. But it's going to take some imaginative leadership and a way to tap new income streams. I'd really prefer a new leadership group to spearhead this endeavor though. I'm not saying Benson has to sell the team. Just give up the majority stake of it. We need a new vision..

that guy can't even keep his fricking chicken tenders .5 ounces bigger. He'll be pouring 16 oz beers into 11 ounces in no time.

She won’t sell the team until after she gets her $400-600m from league expansion. There are very few owners that are truly liquid to build a new arena, but someone must be willing to put in a fair amount with state if it’s ever done. New renovations are going to be less than $225m and she’s likely to only be responsible for 20% of it if that.

We are so cheap. The only reason the renovations are getting announced are because of the expansion money.
It’s quite pathetic really… compounded by seeing what other teams are doing or have done.

quote:You used to come here with good info, but lately just complain. Assuming someone in the organization wronged you. Face the facts, we are a small city in a poor state. We cannot have what the Waltons and Balmers provide for their teams. We have to be happy to have 2 professional teams in this city.
New arena could be build on Lots 3/3A and champions garage. They chose the cheapest route. Enjoy the extra 2k seats.

what a franchise with ambition in all phases does.
meanwhile our toilet bowl of an arena is getting some new seats in the lower bowl. there's people on this board that are younger than the seats in the upper deck.

The Balmers did that knowing he has the L.A. market in his back pocket. Bought land in Inglewood and controls the entire entertainment venue. Gayle does not have Los Angeles market or real estate. New Orleans is handicapped to the site of where they are.
