Not terrible player comps, but that’s also old cap numbers. History says we use the MLE as a starting point, which is 12.2 this year. Adding yearly raises and the absolute minimum to resign Herb is probably 4/60

Sign me up for that. With that cap rising that'll be a steal.

I wonder how much Naz Reid will demand this off season.

More than 50Tiger thinks he will.

The bigger obstacle, in my option, is TM3 who may demand a near max extension next year.

Not even close.
If Trey is in line to get a max extension, and BI and Zion were healthy this past season, playoffs included, then i would assume we were playing in the Finals.

Well, we were the 1 seed with the 3rd best record in the NBA when Zion was healthy, and that was with BI missing well over 50% of those games, and CJ having his initial hand injury that saw his shooting fall off a cliff the first time.

And also, that was before Trey took that end of season huge leap. It was basically mostly Zion carrying us to a top 3 team in the NBA. And maybe that's not entirely fair as Zion also missed 8 games, and we were 6-2 in those 8 games.

This team healthy was pretty darn elite.

Yes, JRich is a FA, just referring to his salary slot. Somebody has to look out for Mrs. B …. lol

I think we need to go less expensive for the Big too but knowing it takes a few years for them to develop Id take a stab at Stewart from Detroit who is a bit more proven and could be had relatively cheap.

6’9 athletic forwards who shoot nearly 50/40/90 at 22 years old don’t grow on trees. Every single team is looking for a guy like trey. If we don’t offer him the money then someone will.

f Herb signs a 4/$50ish deal that would be solid value. If you could have $50 million today, or $80-$100 million next year assuming you don't get critcally injured or shoot bad from 3 all year, which would you choose? I think most people go with the $50.

Herb is already an older "young" player with coming into the league so late. He won't have as many new contract opportunities, so he may have to hold out for the biggest pay day possible.

Unless he manages to shoot 38% with some decent volume, I can't see anyone giving him more than the average for these defense oriented players. As of right now he's a 33.6% shooter from deep, that is going to limit his earning potential.

Myles Turner and Jarrett Allen both started the 2nd half of their rookie year. If you can draft a big that's ready to start by year 2, that would go a long way to keeping everything together.

For sure, they’re out there periodically. Just don’t think Griff will take that chance. Believe he knows team needs to get to the second round to be safe. I think a solid backup 4-5 can be had without breaking the bank leaving a bit to extend Herb and acquire a proven shooter.

The disconnect with some in this thread is that the average now for solid young starters in the NBA is 15 million a year or more. Plenty of recent examples of that. 10-12 million is a fringe starter. I don't think Herb and his agent are taking a 4 for 50 million deal, nor should they.

Hard to dump him when we burned all our remaining 2nds dumping graham. Maybe we can give cash to a team to dump him

Well it's a good thing the Pelicans have leverage with the depth they've built with the wing position and Herb being a RFA.

If I were in their shoes and he doesn't improve his shot, I'm absolutely offering the same range as Robert Williams, Bandon Clarke and Finney-Smith and if they don't like it, they can go try to find someone who will break the 60 range and we'll match if it comes to that.

I agree.
But i'm curious if we could actually get a 2nd back from the Spurs by sending them Billy, maybe if we sent cash as well.

we have our 2024 2nd, essentially, but we've traded, 23 and 25 through 29.
