Either it's no cap space with Parsons or no cap space without Parsons. I know which one I would take

Definitely. The Ariza signing doesn't make a ton of sense to me (although they did get good value), but it would make less sense if they didn't match Parsons. Ariza is a great asset on the deal he's signed to, I could see them moving Ariza next season or so.

I'm not sure why they would bring Parsons back now

Let Dallas pay him 15 mil a year

You just got close to the same player in Ariza for 7 mil less a year

Because it costs the team nothing, only the owner

i'm still a novice when it comes to all these rules and exceptions. I know they can go over the cap to re-sign parsons because they have his bird rights but does doing that have any cap implications in future years?

Why not though?

He was under 7 million last season and may go for cheaper than that since he didn't play much for the pacers. Decent size and defense, averages close to 15 a game, and fits a position of need.

His defense is below average

One of the most inefficient scorers in the league and has a bad jumper.

Hasn't really improved in 5 years

Last thing we need is an SF that can't hit 3s.

He also doesn't fit with Jrue or Reke.

So this season they can go over the cap to sign Parsons. Next season they'll have Howard for 22.3m, Harden for 15.7m Parsons for 15.3m, Ariza for 8.2m, and a team option for Terrence Jones at 2.5m. That's 64m right there, so without trades it would be hard for them to really improve their team next off season.

They'll have 2 $8.4 million trade exceptions from Lin and Asik.

Is that enough salary out for the Cavs? 6ish million for Thompson's contract and 16ish coming back in?

Agreed. I can it see if Cleveland sent Waiters and picks to GS. Not just picks though.

Does the new Gee trade exception fill the gap?

So GS wouldn't do Thompson for Love but they'll do Thompson for picks? I assumed they would be a win now mode.

I don't know. I usually keep up with the numbers. I haven't had a computer for two months though, so I haven't been able to do much research. Kind of aggravating

Only reason I can see GSW making that deal is surrender. They are conceding that they cannot compete for a title any time soon, so they are acquiring assets. But still...
