Yeah, no pressure at all

The Heat already proving they can win without Oden doesn't mean fans and the media will have lesser expectations of him.

All the agent propaganda since the beginning seems to be aimed at getting the Heat to maximize their offer to him. I think the Pelicans are a fall back but are in legitimate contention because with a 2.5 times tax rate, do you really want to pay $11 million for a guy that isn't even cleared to play 5 on 5 yet?

Miami didn't cut Miller to go after Oden or this would be over already. They cut Miller to lower expenses, do they really want to undo that for a guy that may not help them contend as much as Miller did? I think he ends up with the Pelicans.

Very interesting point

I'm cautiously optimistic about this one now

Interesting for more reasons than Oden. If the Heat don't sign Oden that says 1 of 2 things to me. Either the 2 time defending champs with the best player in the world don't make enough money to not care about payroll, saying something about league economic and the effects of the new CBA, OR they think there's a good chance LeBron leaves and they are trying to maximize profits while he's still on the team.

I agree. If Oden was the intended target after parting ways with MIller, they would've got him. He is an intriguing FA with a low risk due to the low payment, and a potential high reward to throw in with the best team in the NBA. That's how they look at it. They see Greg, although he's a big IF, being healthy, as making them a little scarier than they are already. They do not need the guy. They are the champs and can target just about anyone because of it, that's how they see it. The expectations would be for him to add to what is already a team with loaded talent.

I think that will throw some added pressure to Oden though. The media will be all over the guy, and although the Heat do not need him to be an animal, there will be eyes all over him with high expectations. That spotlight and pressure really might not be a good idea for someone wanting to start his career over fresh. If he joins New Orleans, he gets that fresh start on a young team also starting fresh. He gets the potential to be what he was drafted to be but without that added pressure and spotlight. I think the Pelicans are the right move, and what he is leaning toward. If he chooses the Heat, it's simply because he doesn't mind the pressure and wants that ring.

Possibly. Or they very well could think he's just not good enough, health/rust whatever, to help their title defense.
