Wow. One bust of the top 6 picks. Nice draft class. And I agree with your post

Ya I read the story, NBC guy is just citing WDSU, which is Fletch, who was totally citing Zach Lowe. So Advocate is probably the most reliable because he, apparently, has a source that is not twitter, unlike Fletch lol.
Here is the totality of what Fletch said:

Some have speculated Loomis could bring Dumars in as a senior executive with Demps remaining as team general manager.

Totally forgot that both Demps and Monty were hired by Hugh Weber lol

None of the locals have much of a track record with this stuff. But the Advocate is the official newspaper of the team, so if the team felt the need to crush the story it would make sense to do it through the Advocate.

Not to rant but a lot of this is hackish by the media.
First, this morning around 9:30 a.m., Zach Lowe reports on a rumor about Joe Dumars possibly being added to the Pelicans front office. No issue with that, Lowe puts a ton of qualifiers in his report which reiterate that it is just a rumor.
Two hours later Fletch writes a report for WDSU entitled "Source: Joe Dumars could join New Orleans Pelicans" which sounds oddly close to those rumors Zach Lowe was talking about, and Fletch clearly alludes to the Zach Lowe piece in his article without mentioning it by name.
Around 4:00 the advocate, with a similarly styled headline, basically says the rumors aren't true.
Notice they quote "sources" as in more than one person.
AN HOUR later NBC's national NBA division writes a story entitled
To make matters worse, that story only references the meetings in 2014 about 5 months ago now, and Fletch's article.
In summary, Fletch is a dipshit.

While nothing is imminent, NBA sources have confirmed to WDSU that former Pistons player and executive Joe Dumars could join the New Orleans Pelicans this offseason.

There are a handful of true new breakers and thousands of "journalists" on twitter repackaging what they said.

#Pelicans Greg Bensel goes on record and confirms Advocate report that nothing is happening between team and Joe Dumars.

However, team senior vice president of communications and broadcasting Greg Bensel said in a statement: “With so many questions surrounding the end of the successful Pelicans season and now Joe Dumars in particular, no job offer or position has been discussed with Joe regarding the Pelicans.
“He is very close to our organization and our ownership, and he has our utmost respect.”

That depends on who's the source of Zach Lowe's comments, because theJruth diagnosed the situation accurately, this is a fabrication of the Internet Echo Chamber.
