Either the post office or city hall.

Maybe build a new city hall where the post office is. Then the new arena at city hall's location.

Or even better a new city hall should land swap with Duncan plaza. A better designed Duncan plaza at podyras/loyola could open up that corner and add to the gathering spots for sports stuff (esp big ones like super bowl, final four, etc) while maintaining green space otherwise. Then the new arena just goes where the post office is. That location would cut down on the walk from downtown, which isn't bad now but saving the time would be nice with so many games. The new arena could continue using the dome's traffic/parking infrastructure. That South Market district area has grown a lot so keep it in that area to maintain the growth.

If the league keeps at this pace, it will be in the next 12-15 years, maybe sooner

Isn’t this a little weird to see the STATE even entertaining the idea of a new arena without a gun to their head? Or, at minimum no denials or pushback?

I think it was understood that after the done was renovated they would renovate or build a new arena. The State does not want to lose the Pelicans.

Possible explanation is we have future buyers who will commit to the city but they’ll want a modern arena.

TIFWIW, but I have it on good authority this is the spot and all indications suggest it will happen.

My question is this:
After Katrina the master plan called for an entertainment district, and the dome and the baby dome were anchors. I love that idea because it makes it an ideal choice for events, due to the walkability and central location. The alternative location isn’t too far away and I can live with that choice, but what will be done with the baby dome?

The area must be developed properly. The dome should be surrounded by businesses that create synergy. Ms. Gayle virtually controls the entire area being the main tenant in both arenas and owning the Hyatt. What will be done to accentuate that?

It’s a historic landmark, with tons of history. How long have you lived in NOLA? You can’t even upgrade windows in the LGD and you think they are going to tear down the most iconic thing in our skyline that literally is the symbol of both the tragedy and rebirth of Katrina?

It will be renovated, changed, morphed into whatever we need it to be, but it’s never going away. The city would riot.

There are 0.0 talks about replacing the super dome, but plenty of times it is workshopped how the dome can be a viable building for the next 50+ years. This isn’t Houston. It’s not going anywhere.

That’s a fact.

No, that's not true. It was built during the Foster administration, but Edwards was the one who pushed for it and got the money appropriated.

They should build it on Congo square/Armstrong park. Could revamp that whole area plus be within a short walk to bourbon.

Build City Hall with shipping containers and the money saved can build the new arena. What we get out of City Hall doesn’t deserve anything new. Really needs to be gutted from the inside out.
