New Arena Discussion
In the article today on the succession plan it was mentioned that a new arena is under consideration.

Which site would you all prefer, if it happened? The ones under consideration per the article are:

1. Land across from convention center by river
2. the old post office on Loyola
3. current city hall location if it moves

Curious what everyone's preferences would be. Seems that the first option is likely the most feasible given its vacant land and the arena could be the anchor/focal point of that whole development by the convention center

Post office would be the obvious choice. Would revitalize that section and give you more room to eventually tear down the Dome and build a nicer stadium.

Its very poorly designed and outdated though.

It was build before we even had a professional team to try and entice one (which worked, obviously). But it was built very much on the cheap and was barely modern when it was built.

But by modern standards it is CRAZY outdated and it would be extremely difficult remodel it for various reasons.

Within the next 10 years they will need a new Arena or the team will likely leave the second Gayle dies.

I feel like the Pels will have to flip the majority of the bill because I think LSU is always eyeballing a new arena or a major remodel at least. I think the state would go to them first if they had to choose. JMO

Build it and they will come? I thought Gov. Edwards was nuts, but it worked.

But yeah, it's now a bottom-5 NBA arena and not getting any better. I think we have maybe five years before we need to start on a new one.

I'm pretty sure the TAF pays for most of LSU sports expansions.

Considering I could walk to one near the convention center I'd love that spot.

Also need to consider concerts and other arena uses as well. The post office and convention center sites seem best opportunities for immediate stuff around for visitors to enjoy. Obviously the convention center location would need to be developed and maybe that the end goal here, the ability to develop and make money on more than the stadium itself (compared to post office and existing sites that are restricted, more difficult for new development, or already developed). Yeah, they weren't part of the most recent selection for the convention center site but until it breaks ground that's all hypothetical and not a done deal. Wouldn't be surprised to see that deal fall through and eventually end up with Gayle's group with the arena being a centerpiece.

Man just thinking about a new arena with about 16-17k capacity with a bigger lower bowl tiny upper deck and open concourse with more food options sounds amazing.

Would prefer something near the Dome. The CC location sounds nice, but would be a nightmare headache unless a LOT of work is done around there for traffic flow.

They do. Tax dollars don't pay for anything LSU sports related.

re: New Arena Discussion
I've always thought they need to get ahead of this sports betting thing and become the Vegas of the Gulf south. I'd build an arena and sports betting/casino all in one type building. You can put that right on the river next to mardi gras world or you can tear down the post office and connect it to the dome and champions square. I'd probably prefer next to the dome because you'd get the business people getting off of work to walk to pelicans games at night, whereas the convention center is too far a walk.
