So if Houston happens to beat the Mavs, what are our Wild Card shots? Is it clinched or who needs to lose/win for us to slide in?

So we have no chance at a Wild Card?

Suns win tie breaker by a point. Too bad tie breaker isn’t the weight of your starting lineup. We’d have them beat.

Tie breaker is point differential. Suns win by a quarter of a point - that's just one shot in four games.

Classic Pels Life that a missed free throw would cost us a tournament spot.

Really, it is not like you get an automatic 2 seed to the playoffs even if you tank the rest of the season.
Like what's the point?

I think its pretty funny the only thing at stake is more money. Like they dont get paid enough to be motivated through the regular season.

It’s a win-win situation. If we win we make the tournament which would be a nice confidence boost and a chance to show we can compete. If we lose we get an easy 3 game schedule. December’s schedule is already easy so it’s a good month to get healthy and make a push up in the standings.

I have no idea how the in season tournament works. I’d obstinately against it and just do not care.

But when we are still sitting Zion in back to backs and taking real loses because of it, I don’t want the team to do anything that adds extra games before the playoffs.

Its becoming a big part of the season and the games count regardless. If you don’t care, then just tune in around march to see if pelicans are close to the playoffs why even bother watching any games right now? If you’re going to be against something at least figure out how it works and what it means.

I don’t mind the tournament as much as I thought I would in the beginning, but the structure is
a little baffling, and it’s really a money grab by the owners. I barely keep up with the standings and have to be told by espn or nbatv how the teams are doing.

How do you keep up with the regular standings?

The tournament is just a way to take 7-8 regular season games and try to increase viewership and ratings. It’s funny to me seeing people get so confused or angry about it, some people just hate change regardless.

If you’re frustrated with money grabbing nba owners, you should see how much tax payer money they get to build stadiums. The amount of revenue from the in season tournament is pennies compared to hundred of millions they get to build a new stadium.

Meh. There aren’t enough hours in the day to look into every brazen money grab that intersects with my interests.

The NBA regular season is meaningless - that’s not a revelation. I watch now because it’s fun to see a young team put it together (or not). This tournament truly doesn’t make the regular season any more interesting to me.

While this may be true to you- thats not the case for everyone else. Games have been highly more competitive. Players have talked and shown to be more motivated playing in these games. Overall most fans have shown a rooting interest and affinity for the games. Thats exactly what the NBA wanted.

The whole money grab argument is silly. All professional sports are looking to create more avenues to earning money- they are a business- its their job to make money. Criticizing a business for making money is an argument I just don’t get.
