Getting back onto the topic of Rougarou, did anyone actually know what it was before Cajun Justice or this thread?

I didn't. I've lived in NOLA my whole life but never heard that term ever. I've heard of the Loup Garou, but not the cajun Rougarou.

But I do have to concede that it would certainly be, above all things, unique.

I absolutely did. My grandmother used to say "da Rougarou gone gitcha."

I've heard of the Loup Garou, but not the cajun Rougarou

Same thing. It's just a cajun colloquialism of the Loup Garou

I think more people have heard of it by it's proper name, Loup Garou. I hadn't even heard of Rougarou before it was brought up in previous rebranding threads.

Were you raised in NOLA? Or in Cajun country?

All of my friends in their 30s and 40s are NOLA kids and they all asked me if I knew what the frick it was because my mom's side are from Vacherie. The only reason why I knew was because of here.

I don't think its all that common knowledge in the city.

I think that is the case. But obviously Rougarou works a bit better as name than Loup Garou, and Rougarou would be more identifiably "Louisiana"...I guess. Even though I don't know anyone who has ever heard that.

I was raised in Baton Rouge. My grandmother was a cajun, but her family was from Gretna.

This is me. I lived in the NOLA area my whole life and have never heard the term Rougarou or Loup Garou for that matter. When I read the description in the article in the OP, I immediately thought to myself "oh that's the monster in the swamp section of the zoo."

I feel like that picture is a sign from the gods that I should switch to Team Rougarou.

Also, apparently the Rougarou was featured on the show Supernatural several times. I've never watched the show, but I wanted to.

Way better than I expected it to be, but I really only catch parts in passing. I hear a lot of people saying it's a good show. It's kind of like the X-Files with more demons.

i have seen every episode of supernatural. it is a great show seasons 1-5 are some of the best tv to be made. 6-8 are a giant step down still watchable but not as good, well except 7 it was god awful.
