Uh. Wow.

Wonder what this means for the future of that franchise and HC vacancy.

The Rockets are planning to promote Executive VP of Basketball Operations Rafael Stone to general manager, sources said. Stone has played a significant part in the Rockets’ team building throughout his tenure with the organization.

If he wants to come in as a consultant, hell yeah.

But he will probably take a year off and then have his pick of FO jobs next year among any vacancies.

Charles Barkley is somewhere laughing. And by somewhere, I mean a poker table.

Probably the smartest move he could make/be forced into tbh.

Guy is inarguably one of the better GM’s of the last 15 years and Houston is sort of a shite show right now with their ownership situation.

Probably also makes any vacancy a lot less interesting to Lue and whoever else.

I think the interest in John Lucas as HC should have told us something.

Tillman will want to go cheap, and I would not be shocked at a total rebuild: trading Harden, Westbrook, everyone to go total money saving mode until the league is back to normal.

Morey stepping down is even better than Morey getting fired. That probably means the cheap owner is making Morey hire a coach he doesn't want. Fertitta is trying real hard to start the dumpster fire in Houston. How long until Houston is forced to trade Harden and start a rebuild?

If I were the Knicks I would be offering him whatever he wants to sign the dotted line....Of course it’s the Knicks so they’ll frick it up or micromanage it to hell and back if they did.

The Knicks literally just hired an entirely new FO this offseason, so that won't happen.

I can see Philly happening next offseason.

I was thinking the opposite like whoever they hire be it JVG or Lue, will have control or final say over roster construction and Morey didn’t want to be a part of that.

So you have never followed the Knicks lol.

But seriously, Scott Perry, current GM, was only renewed for next season. So it’s clear they aren’t putting a ton of investment into him. So It would honestly line up, and Scott is not going to turn that thing around this year so they will have every justification if they want it.

It’s the Knicks so I would fully expect them to instead resign Isiah Thomas and Scott Layden to be the first GM duo, but if Dolan were ever going to make a smart decision, this would be the one

I guess the question needs to be asked here, even though I know what the answer will be:

Would you be down to trade the package necessary for Harden?

Would you give anything of value for Westbrook?

One would imagine a Harden trade would have to include some combo of Jrue, Hayes, NAW, Didi rights, 13, multiple future firsts.

They just hired Leon Rose as POBO this offseason.

Darryl Morey isn't coming in to be under anyone but ownership, anywhere.

MM pointed out this is probably about JVG. Remember his interview turned into a continuing conversation. Maybe they aren't gassing up the dumpster just yet.

Could be. Then our coaching search becomes about what the Clippers do. Do they hire Lue or someone else?

Absolutely not. We would have to send out BI to make it work, too many people would need the ball in their hand.

The only way to make the money work for him would be sending Jrue out. I would do it, but I would expect at least 2 future 1sts from Houston for eating his contract.

A former agent that was seemingly brought on because of his relationship building and reputation for getting stars together, not really his organizational management....As he basically has none.

I don’t think the barriers are really all that great to giving Morey what he wants if the Knicks wise up a bit. Which again, I doubt they are capable of. So I would more expect to see him go to a place like Portland if they underperform again.

Not advocating for the move, but I don't think this is correct either. Harden, Ingram, and Zion could work if you surround them with low usage 3 and D type players.

Send out anyone not name BI or Zion.
